Been searching for Business class fares ex south east Asia to LHR & found Sri Lankan airfares to LHR & other European destinations for around AUD$2000~ return. Thought it might be worthwhile to post up as they are set to join One World next year. Fare seems to come up on most dates I search, see example below from Bestflights.

Note that ul not due to join oneworld until late 2013 (18mth) and if others are anything to go buy will probably be later.

If you can, I would book the fare directly through UL.

UL's service is very good, and their A332s I think are now all (or soon to be) full flat beds.

SIN-FCO is AUD$1450
SIN-FRA is AUD$1590
SIN-CDG is AUD$1520

SQ charge more for economy on the same route.

What's the official oneworld join date? This looks like a magnificent option to get to Europe/UK!

I would be surprised if the limo was available on these fares... the promo says available for full-fare business class pax. Would be interesting to know for sure.

I'm booked BKK-LHR / CDG-BKK next March and when I enquired they said I'd be eligible for the Chauffeur Service provided by the Airline.

Just to clarify - on these tickets you need to do the hop from Oz to departure destination ...but yes I understand the economics. Reason I ask is I would like to research this concept of flying a little more (i.e. find a deal local to SE Asia/China then buy ticket onwards from there); is there a list of the best sites (i.e. secure; reliable; low fees etc.) that folks use or have listed somewhere on AFF? It appears the best path is direct with the carrier first (as in the Sri Lankan example); any tips in 'flipping' the country to the local one that someone has compiled already?

thanks for the insight re: this thread.

sorry - i meant to add to this ...which sites/newsletters people are using to track SE Asia/Asia deals to North America/Europe ...i am overwhelmed with blogs/newsletters so don't need to add another 10 or 20! i.e. any trusted sites that bring together the bulk of the 'deals'/'offers'

Hi Limewood - thanks --funny ..this is what led me to the AFF conversation in the first place (i.e. the Oz bargains post).

Still would like a reliable way (like a Bestflights) that federates all the deals from key cities in asia i.e. bkk, sin, kul, nrt etc. so i can get an idea of what city i should go to pick up the cheaper J flight onwards to north america or europe.

Anyone know of a good equivalent in these major gateway cities?

cheers

I like ita software

It's not totally comprehensive but it's a good starting point for searching. You enter start/end/dates/etc

Matrix.itasoftware.com

They also have an iPhone app.

thanks mate - for sure ...absolutely use that ..it is things like what airline is running a J companion sale ticket out of Bangkok or ...what asian airline is running a deal to fly to miami out of tokyo in the month of January...the sites we look at for the marketing sales like bestflight can give you a trigger to look on Matrix ...but Matrix is not strong I find when you say i want to go BKK,SIN,PEK,NRT etc. to LAX ...it gives results quite good but then if you start picking these cities apart ...you get very different results ...

happy travels

Agree - it wont show everything.

I do occasionally search for 2 (rather than 1) just to see if any companion fares are about. Sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.

i use westminster travel for ex-HK and chan brothers for ex-SIN to keep up on the specials then book direct with the airline.
