Upstairs Y on the 380

I know some (soon to be all?) the 380's now have an upstairs Y section down the back. Has anyone flown there? Any Comments? I've just picked up an exit row on QF12 in November in the upstairs section and other than spending a lot of time in the J bar upstairs, I've never sat there for a flight.
Interestingly I was able to book an exit row (35F), and get confirmation of the seat in writing, without paying any extra. Might be a bug there with the new configuration.

I've just completed Y flights on the A380, both downstairs, and upstairs. It is a slightly more exclusive feeling upstairs because its such a small cabin, but because SQ shut the curtains of every galley, every section feels small.

It's nice boarding up with the J pax (and before other Ys), but you have to walk through J which reminds you of what you are missing out on. On SQ, the upper Y is 2-4-2 so definetely try and get window seats if travelling as a pair - the window storage bins are massive and very handy - I keep everything in there and nothing in my seat pocket (at all) to maximise leg-room.

The stairs at the back were blocked off for most of the flight.

But at the end of the day, they're all Y seats. It's not going to make much difference.

I disagree! Relatively speaking, a bad Y seat is a lot worse than a bad J seat, and a good Y seat is a lot better (relatively) compared to a good J seat!

Not always. Late config swaps around T-80 open it up nicely for those who do not hold Emerald Status.

The only negative I found with the Upper Deck Economy was the lack of storage, and how quickly the storage disappeared. Early boarding is the biggest tip I will give.

That's very true. When I was on at least one other airline, I always felt sorry for those in Y+ when I look at them from one of the best Y seats.
