Hi guys

just got a quick question about travelling internationally and using 2 different airlines.
Myself and my partner are flying to Munich at Christmas time via Hong Kong and Moscow.

Now we are flying Qantas from Perth to Hong Kong and then Aeroflot From Hongkong to Moscow and then on to Munich. I am wondering, considering these airlines are not codeshared, will my checked baggage continue all the way through to Munich? Or will we have to recheck in Hongkong for the Aeroflot Flights.

Thank you for your help

Regards

Jason

Are all the flights sold on a single ticket? If so, that means there is at least a ticket sales interline agreement in place and that usually means there is also a baggage interline agreement.

if there are separate tickets for the Qantas a Aeroflot flights then the answer is that the bags won't be checked though by Qantas and you will need to clear immigration, collect the bags and clear customs and re-check them in Hong Kong.

Hi NM

i booked all these flights at the same time through the same website. On my Qantas Frequent Flier Bookings it lists the aeroflot flights also (Operated by aeroflot) both on the way to Germany and also on the way back.

Being a Gold Frequent Flier i am allowed a Baggage Allowance of 2 x 32kg, will this be also the agreement with Aeroflot? I wouldnt think so, So I would assume i would only allowed to carry 23kg all the way through?

Regards

Jason

If your flight on aeroflot is not a qf number then you won't receive any frequent flyer benefits

You can ask if they can interline your baggage at check in otherwise clear customs at HK collect your bags and then take the escalator back up to departures as soon as you pass the currency exchange counters

A while ago I saw a nice list of interline agreements that SQ has. Is there a similar page on the QF website? I'm looking to see if they interline with Seair.

Interline agreements are only relevant when the flights are combined in a single ticket/itinerary.

If it was all booked and paid at the same time on the QF web site then it is covered by an interline agreement and bags can be checked through from your point of origin to destination.

In most cases, the baggage allowance of the first carrier applies for all direct transit connections. So you should get the QFF Gold allowance outbound. But if you return via the reverse path you will only get the baggage allowance for the operating carrier of the first segment. The rules for some operators/flights/tickets changed recently to set the allowance for the journey to be that of the Most Significant Carrier in the itinerary (usually the one operating the longest flight segment), but that does not include any FF benefits. The baggage allowance should be shown on the e-ticket receipt for each segment. This does not include any FF benefits, just the basic allowance for any passenger travelling on that ticket.

I got lucky earlier this year. I had an SQ redemption to DXB and a separate internet purchased flight on GA. When I checked in at BNE they put my bags all the way through to BAH, two airlines, separate PRNs.

Yep, sometimes happens. QF has a policy where they will check through for OneWorld flights on separate itineraries, but not for other airlines.

I had an interesting connection in HKG back in July. Not time wise but it was CX to VS on separate tickets with plenty of time in between flights.

The CX check-in agent at BKK did not want to check luggage through to SYD. No problem got to HKG and went to transfer desk and showed them luggage tags for bag and golf clubs and luggage was transferred to VS flight to SYD. It was as simple as that. Off I went to the lounge to relax before the flight.

Not sure if this is possible with all carriers but one to keep in mind for the future.

if all booked on the one ticket then ok for baggage interline. That is exactly why your QFFF account shows the Aeroflot segments - this will be visible to the check-in staff and by seeing the SU segment they know how far to check your baggage!
