Just looked at some costs for next year using Bestflights.
VS $3,250 & QF $6,450.
Is that usual & what's the difference?
(we have travelled QF Y+)

QF do charge a premium.

What you'll notice most however is the AUH-LHR segment is in Y (on EY). Not Y+. Hence the pricing difference.

VS is Virgin Atlantic so it will be Y+ all the way to LHR. VS Y+ is not much different to QF.

VS meals are almost the same as Y but the service & seats are comparable. Is a meal worth 3k to you?

I would go VS.?

VS Y+ is actually pretty good! With that price difference I will definitely pick VS for SYD-LHR

BTW. I looked at PER-SIN-LHR on QF around Xmas.

Y+ $6,200 each
J $ $6,700 each

Check out the QF J prices first.

Actually, I would choose QF if the pricing was similar.

VS have a Y+ product which is basically Y seats with a bit more legroom. I'm sure there are other small perks here and there, but the seat is what you want. QF has a fantastic award winning Y+ seat which is why you pay a premium. But $6450 is a bit rich as you can pickup business class fares for under that price usually (for example sale fares).

I would go with VS if you're price conscious or try look for a cheap J fare if you have a bit of money up your sleeve.

Have travelled on VS and QF in Y+ previously, the VS seat is wider but the pitch is the same. The QF one has a little more padding but the screen is stupidly placed if you are tall so you get neck strain looking down at it.

Much of a muchness really, certainly not 3K in additional benefits.

VS have an earlybird sale on, if I look at the non sale filed fares VS and QF have exactly the same base fare on the SYD LHR route

Thank you, that could be 2 for 1 pricing. Unfortunately I need Oct-Nov, which isn't available yet.
I'm wondering if the VS fares are flexible for flight changes.

If you have any DJ points you could consider DJ Y+ to Abu Dhabi & then use points to upgrade from Y to Y+ on to Europe

No Y+ ex AUH though!

It is all about looking and not giving up at first glance. We got $7k return J tickets on Dec 27th and Jan 11th so very happy with those. F upgrades - fingers crossed!!

Given that SIN-LHR-SIN in Y+ (saver) is about AU$3700 (dec12/Jan12) you really should consider basing your flights exSIN. The savings in Y (or Y+) SIN-Australia-SIN are equally stunning...

Happy wandering

Along wandering_fred's theory, check those Y+ ex FRA bargain at AUD $2727.

In the spirit of one-up-manship ;), it's a bit of a pity that the HKG-Australia fares are not quite as inexpensive as SIN-Australia. The reason I say that is that BA is offering Y+ (12 Dec 14 Jan) HKG-LHR-HKG for a bit under AU$2100. And that can actually be reduced a bit (well so can the other location's fares) by a return from BRU or similar, which avoids the UK/London APD...

Note that continuing onwards with the BA Y+ tickets to the USA are a reasonable way to avoid the ridiculous transATL premium fares.

Travelling home for xmas the last thing I want is a missed connection or delayed baggage becoming my problem instead of the airlines. I will always pay for quality over quantity and therefore value the thought of being on one ticket the whole way through. I have booked and paid for J already. $6700 each is actually pretty good IMO.

While I appreciate your advice and I imagine it will be useful to the OP I will never travel Y, or Y+ International ever again anyway so its a moot point. :)

$3200 is the short answer Sorry about that-----I found Qantas Premium is equal to some other airlines business in the Airbus 380 which is in a separate area .I buy Qantas economy fare which is competitive in price with other airlines and then use my FF points to upgrade to Premium.
