Okay - here is a question for you:

In three weeks time Mr and Mrs Simsy are shouting Ma & Pa Simsy to a 5 week trip to the states.

Mrs Simsy had a work thing and is flying over the day after the rest of us. Ma & Pa Simsy are flying Y+ on AirNZ and i'm flying J (AirNZ's highest class of service)

On NZ J, you have a guest chair, presumably to eat fellow travelers etc

Being Ma & Pa Simsy are back in Y+, what is the etiquette in inviting them up? Can I invite them up? I've never been in a situation where a group travelling were in different classes.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Picture of the NZ J seat attached:

Wow that really is book the cook taken to extreme.

On a serious note, the seats are for other pax in the same class to eat with you. Not for pax from lower classes to turn up for a feed.

What if I want to eat the other passenger? haha

Fair call - anyone else think anything else?

I haven't been in this situation either, but I would suggest asking the J CSM if it were ok for one to visit after the meal service, and then the other. That way you have acknowledged that you are not trying to get them a free J meal, and it is after the FAs have had their busy time. If they say no then accept with good grace and go back and visit them instead (but take a full glass with you ;)).

I would guess it also depends on how full the J cabin is.

The CSM might just say tell them to come up and stay after meal service.

I'm with you JessicaTam, be up front and you can't go wrong. A bit like pax in the front of Y using the J bathroom, ask and you can't go wrong.

flew back from KL in March J with Mr. KLN and Ms KLN. had a very good friend downstairs in Y. asked if she could come up and visit, and they said yes, no problems after dinner for a couple of drinks. J was quiet that night. we didn't end up doing it as we all fell asleep anyway, but we had earlier managed to sneak her into the Lounge at KL anyway, so there had been a bonus there that night anyway.

I got an upgrade to Bus on SYD to LAX last year, friend was in econ. FA bought him upstairs (A380) for a short visit (at his request not mine) during a non meal time. But he was escorted, couldn't wander up by himself as he tried that first.

Agree with JT be upfront about it. I've always found ANZ and kiwis in general to be (cough) reasonable folk.

You could always visit them I guess.
