Typo, 12 month status extension, or just normal?

My status reassessment has always been July 31, 2012, and my QFF Summary has always stated this.

Over the last couple of days though, it's changed to read:

"Status reassessment will occur 31 July, 2013"

Yet on the last line, it still reads "Additional status credits required by 31 July 2012 to reach..."

So, is the 2013 a typo, normal op procedure, or did they just comp me an extra year at my current status level, bypassing the 31 July 2012 deadline?

How far off requal are you? Do you have many future bookings in the system? They have probably just comped you early.

[-]Hmmm ... it's getting a little late in the month for the residual status to remain.[/-]

The 2013 is interesting ... I am thinking you may have been comped ... keep any eye out and report back ... :D

For a July anniversary, about now is when they would be doing the initial rounds of assessment, so it does look as though a comp has occurred.

That's not a comp, of course. They just done the reassessment and seen that you've requalified. You still have another 6 weeks to get the extras.

Are you sure? Here's mine, why doesn't it read Status Reassessment will occur 31 Dec 2013?

Current Status: Gold
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Dec 2012
Status credits earned from 01 Jan 2012: 1,340
Additional Status credits required by 31 Dec 2012 to attain Platinum: 60

Because you are gold and have six months left to qualify for WP. They wont reassess gold unless you are at the end of the qualifying year. Similarly for me as a WP I have more than qualified but no status reassessment is showing as I have three months or so to go still:

Current Status: Platinum

Status reassessment will occur: 30 Sep 2012
Status credits earned from 01 Oct 2011: 2,340
Additional Status credits required by 30 Sep 2012 to receive additional Platinum privileges 60

I will hit those 60SCs when my flights form yesterday and today hit.

I misread the month in the OP:oops:

Going by what's noted there and past posted anecdotal experience, I would say it is quite likely you have been extended for another year.

Oh ... dear ... not more "Dead SC's' :p ... ;)

'Fraid so

If you haven't requal'd then they aren't dead - if you fail to make the 1200 this will be counted as a comp and you will lose your one free comp.

I would also consider any SC's over a loyalty bonus (e.g., 501-999,1001-1499,1501-1999,2001-2399) in no-mans-land - dead SC's as they now get wiped every year.

From 1 December 2011, Qantas Frequent Flyers will earn a Loyalty bonus of 8,000 points for every 500 Status credits earned within a single membership year - up to a maximum of four Loyalty bonuses per membership year.

At the end of your membership year, Status credit balances relating to the calculation of the new Loyalty bonus will be reset to zero.

Last year I lost ~300sc's during the change over. I think that Medhead lost a few too (from memory).
This is once enhancement that l don't like one little-itty-bit...
I did ask Red Roo, answer was, 'Meh....too bad.

No-one will ever beat my loss! I had 495 loyalty bonus SCs at the end of my year in March. It would have been my fourth lot of 8000 points. I still ended up in front of the old system though, so no complaints here.

And yes, I did consider getting the extra 5 SCs, but it wasn't worth it.

I think the really problem will be when they change the number of points per bonus. Even with the wiping of the status credits you can still be better off depending on how many status credits you get. I've done a quick comparison as follows, but with pretty big steps of 50 SC just to give the idea. The last column shows the difference between the new bonus and the old bonus, so a positive number means you're better off with the new bonus system. These numbers also take into account the residual points value of any SC over the 450SC level in the old system. Basically you can see there are bands when you're worse off with the new system. As this is enhanced to reduce the 8000 point bonus I'd expect the bands to change and eventually to be equal or less value than the old LB system.

edit: I just did a more detail version. Assuming you don't take the 50,000 points at 2400SC we are worse off under the new system when the status credits are <500SC, 730SC to 990SC, 1450SC to 1490SC and >2880SC.
