Currently in the CL for the first time (MEL). Nice, and much, much quieter. Apart from that, it's not that different. Or maybe all the secrecy and hype just raised expectations too high..

Congrats on getting to CL!
How does the food/drink compare to the QP/J lounge?

Haha. Not me! I'm a DJ flyer that is a lowly NB with QF, leeching off my boss' status :D

Toasted sandwiches, beef stew with rice, lentil soup and a good selection of wines and spirits. TBH, not sue how it compares to QP/J.

Compared to DJ, not that much better on the food front (when comparing DJ proper meal selections), but obviously a much wider range of wines and the option of spirits.

Aren't the doors kind of grey and not black at the top of the escalators in MEL?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Probably the case.

There are some "with permission" pics taken at SYD in the platinum one lunch thread.
Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

It's probably not the "done" thing to take pictures.

IMHO.... I prefer to sit in the MEL J lounge most of the time.

I am happy with a Marlborough Sav Blanc and to be left alone. I prefer to hold on to my boarding pass.

To me.... The lounge is probably the least important in terms of CL. It is more the service aspect which appeals.

I don't use baggage tags... 99% of the time I only have hand luggage. My PA arranges and checked luggage. I also don't carry frequent flyer cards.

My status is clearly marked on my boarding pass where the only people who need to see it (status) are Qantas staff, at the aircraft or at the lounge.

I usually throw my BP out when leaving the aircraft. I kept one when WP1 was a new thing as some AFF'ers wanted to see what it actually said as a CL and WP1. In fact..... I think someone from BNE drinks night took it as a souvenir.

Fair enough, that makes sense.

I know my boss values the upgrades the most - when I asked he said he probably gets upgraded (Dom and Int'l) probably 2/3 of the time.

Didn't know the SYD one was nearly double the size of MEL!

We experienced the Mel Flounge last year - had been told by people down there that it was something really special - 'Like a good gentlemen's club' - was amazed at how small (meant to infer select?) it was - and definitely had a different tone to Sydney's (which I can say I prefer). Mind you, the massage I had there was one of the best I've ever had.

LOL, that was my impression after being in a CL too..

as BossReggie has already written, CL is more about the service that QF give you, not about the lounge. I'm not a CL, but a number of people in the organisation I work for are.

I'm not sure why, but the impression I get from this forum is that many people hold being a CL as the ultimate goal, as if there is some utopian nirvana in achieving this level. It just means QF consider you a very valuable person to have flying with them, and that they'll look after you. They wont build a whole terminal for you, they wont empty out the plane for you, they'll just do their best to make sure you're not annoyed.

This reminded me of something I meant to comment on the other week, but forgot about, and that is the people who use their bag tags on their cabin luggage. Seriously? I know that they may be excited about their Q tags, but who puts a bag/status tag on cabin luggage? It's just a case of DYKWIA, when the answer is: "no one important"...
