First time through the frosted black doors

I'm not sure why, but the impression I get from this forum is that many people hold being a CL as the ultimate goal, as if there is some utopian nirvana in achieving this level.
A reasonable way of putting it. I'd say it was more a case of wanting to see places unexplored on their trip along the airline status path.

And like anything that is a mystery, it has a certain allure until you've expierenced it and looked behind the curtain at least once.

Well I'll put it out, here..don't peek behind it. It will make the trip much more enjoyable.

There are, which I will happily release a link to for members in good standing on request by PM. Having said that, the ones below in the link from markis10 do reasonable justice.

Do you have good shots of the food section? That's the key for me :)

I thought Marc Newson designed the lounges not some johnny foreigner architects? Blink once or twice and you wouldn't be able to tell if that was the INT F lounge or the DOM CL.

No, but I can describe it in reasonable detail if that was something you wanted to know. PM me to chat.

How does the F&B compare to the SYD/MEL F Lounges? (That is, only if you are allowed to answer :p)

It's very similar to the self-service parts of the F Lounge, but doesn't have a restaurant. It is truly an amazing domestic experience compared with the J Lounge.

I'm not sure why, but the impression I get from this forum is that many people hold being a CL as the ultimate goal, as if there is some utopian nirvana in achieving this level. It just means QF consider you a very valuable person to have flying with them, and that they'll look after you. They wont build a whole terminal for you, they wont empty out the plane for you, they'll just do their best to make sure you're not annoyed.

Not that I was aiming for CL myself, but had my "epiphany" 2 weeks ago when I accidentally learned that a close friend of mine is a CL. Would have never thought she would be "in scope", but surely she is a very valued customer of QF and in an influential position at the company she works for.

OT, there was a thread more than a year ago about Andrew Demetriou losing his CL perks after AFL switched to Virgin, IIRC. Saw him sitting in one of the cafes in MEL T3 Tuesday evening, instead of in the DJ lounge. Privacy can't be the reason, as I clearely heard him talking on the phone when only walking past on my way from gate to exit.

I'm one of those people that feel that way. Having experienced many years being thrilled at flying, but not making even SG, I had always wanted to know what the lounges were like. And it is true that as WP, you are treated differently - I've been able to take others with me to the WP desk at the DOM J lounges and get them sorted out in all sorts of ways. It is nice that QF do look after you as WP.

So it's natural to wonder about what the same thing would be like as a CL. I don't think anyone can be pinged for wondering that, even if we know that many of us are never going to be in a situation that we are likely to be able to achieve it!

I agree that moving from Silver>Gold>Platinum is a significant step up.

Bear in mind that CL is not something that is attained, its by invitation only. Its not actually part of the status progression at all, so SILVER>GOLD>PLATINUM>CHAIRMANS LOUNGE is not true, and being CL shouldn't be considered as a part of that process at all.

Absolutely - but whilst it's not an attainable progression from NB up to CL, it is recognised that as far as recognition and benefits received, CL is at the top of the pile. I've been the benefits that WP brings - but that doesn't mean I can't wonder what it would be like as a CL. Regular upgrades, for example.

IMHO... I was already receiving a lot of the CL benefits. Upgrades don't help me one bit, as I always sit in the same aircraft seat.

I certainly won't go out of my way to actually sit in the lounge either.

Now that I can once again fly J to OOL and MCY.... QF has lost most of my flights to QLD. I used to fly to BNE and either Limo or Helicopter transfer to the coast. I won't need to now.

CL is a little like WP1... Don't bother chasing it or aspiring to it.... NEITHER are worth it if you can afford premium class travel.

If you can't afford that... IMHO... WP will give you pretty much all you need.

F&B is self-service (yes, all B inc. spirits is fully self-service). Decent sized service island, food is a step or three about DOM J Lounge, frequently replenished/stocked and good flavour profiles.
