Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Really? I've never once had my status checked when using the express security line.

Same in SYD DOM, never been asked and priority line has always been longer than the non-priority lane

Maybe, it's my fluro shirt - like moths to a light it attracts all sorts of things;)

Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Thanks for sharing all the info - it has made for a lively and interesting thread. :) Mr FM and I are totally self funded and have only ever been SG (although will be WP for the first time in July), so it is interesting to hear about a level we will never experience. We do have a friend who was CL before retiring, so knew some of this info but didn't like to cross question him!

I would have thought that the pilot is the only one who could ultimately hold a plane. I am sure JB can provide an answer. Connecting passengers I'd be more sympathetic for, but I wouldn't see something like that as a good enough reason to hold a flight.

Agreed, if it's that important that you make the flight, then make sure you get there on time. Traffic is not an unforeseeable occurrence. And it sounds like it was the last (non-redeye) PER-SYD of the day. They never like this to leave late as it has to get into SYD before the curfew. Not to mention that pilots and ground crew who are targeted on OTP really couldn't give a stuff about a late passenger, they just want the flight out on time.

Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Remember there are a range of check-in options available (online, mobile, Faster, Smarter Check-in)
But not via phone.

Very frustrating when despite your best efforts you are running tight to the check-in deadline.

It should be simple to;

Ring 131313 (or whatever)
Ask to be online checked in - you have no luggage
Arrive at the airport 10 minutes before the flight is due to depart
Board

"Sorry, can't help you. Good luck" is the response you get, even as a P1, and per this thread, even as a CL.

I fly with a CL member pretty regularly

I have to say its pretty good.

They are realistically only domestic, have a glass frosted door that says *private* and hosts inside.

The one thing I really love is that they take your boarding pass, and keep it at the desk, then when your flight is about to leave, they will come and find you in the lounge, no matter how long you've been in their - be buggered if I know how they remember, but they work it out.

Other than that, food is a lot better, drinks are top shelf, available 24/7 and are free pour.

Have private office space available and much much much better bathroom/shower facilities.

They allow Collingwood supporters into the CL? Jeez... I'll pass

Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Pretty positive my boss is CL, and if I ever have the privelege of travelling with him regularly I will enjoy the experience for what it is... Something that I'll never get on my own coin lol

This would be the best description I've seen of the CL.

Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Interesting thread, but it's not all milk and honey with access to CL.
My CL boss loves the 'assistance' and service as a CL. But perversely, he tends to avoid the lounges. He goes if travelling with staff as he knows we like a peek and we will get space together (especially Perth), but prefers to avoid if alone because: 'there are too many people I know so I can't get piece and quiet,' 'not great for making work related calls as you never know who is there.'

Perversely he finds the anonimity of the general concourse the most private as the J lounges suffer the same issues as the CL (he is well know in the business world but not to the general public).

Sounds like a wise man who knows the saying loose lips sink ships rather well. Must admit I am amazed what you hear at any time in the lounges, lifts can be interesting places as well.

Re: Pre Intl travel call from the P1 desk

Received a call from the P1 team yesterday but it went through to my voicemail. It was a courtesy call advising me about my seat selection for my forthcoming SYD-PVG trip.

Thats a fair call.

You never know who your going to run into in the CL...

We once had a meeting with a Federal Minister in Sydney.. We arrived in the foyer of her office, to be told that she was stuck in Melbourne and wouldn't be in Sydney till the following day.

An hour later we were at the airport for an early flight to Canberra for another meeting and who should we run into in the CL but the very Minister that was avoiding us!!

That was years ago though ;-)

I was meant to have a meeting with a British diplomat in Sydney. His secretary said he was stuck in Canberra. I went to the CL in Sydney he was in there awaiting a flight to ADL.

It's not a problem I will ever experience but I personally have no interest in the physical lounge CL gets. A friend goes in there many times and raves about it, i just dont get it. Am I alone?

Certainly the SYD lounge (the only CL I've experienced) is the best domestic lounge I've seen by a significant order of magnitude.
