Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I read it as, everyone who flies into RGN needs a valid visa otherwise you will be likely denied boarding on your inbound RGN flight.

I then extrapolate that if you have your boarding pass for the outbound ex-RGN flight (and no checked luggage or if luggage has already been checked through) and that you arrive and depart on the same plane, then you will not need to clear C&I, you probably exit the plane ... sit near the departure gate ... and wait for re-boarding. In that case, you visa doesn't get stamped/taken/consumed and thus is valid for your next RGN entry.

You assume you can transfer from arrivals to departures without going through C&I. I am not sure there is any such airside transfer in Yangon. One of the design 'improvement' in the new terminal is that departures and arrivals are done from different floors.

Post 2905 on Flyertalk has details on visas etc. from a traveller who has successfully flown one of these recent fares (ie. not the fares that were the genesis of this thread).

I would take that post with a grain of salt, simply because various visas may only be applicable for certain countries, and advice on the internet should not be relied on for this reason. A phone call to Canberra will make it clear what the situation is for each traveller and their nationality.

My attempts at contacting the Embassy in both Canberra and London have been completely fruitless. I have sent two emails twice to each Embassy over two weeks and no reply.

I did say phone (or fax), given their website is offline, there is every chance they may not be e literate as the rest of the world:

+61-2-6273-3811
+61-2-6273-3751
Fax :
+61-2-6273-4357

I am surprised its not on the activity list for Ozfest - Friday PM - camp out at Myanmar/Burma Embassy for visa info.

Verbal information on a visa to a country I'm not familiar with (particularly one in the midst of some significant political issues) is not something I'd be comfortable with.

But your happy to reference a US based internet posting that is more than likely not going to be applicable to passport holders of Asean member states or dialog partners? A call with a request to send you information would not be an issue, given there is some reference to a requirement that only one visit every 6 months is allowed in a post here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....g-myanmar-visa-application-details-28525.html, I would be ringing!

Its not really a transfer as such if one flies in on the same plane that they will be flying out of, assuming they have a BP for the second flight.

I'm also VERY interested in this post. I'm about to book my positioning flights for end of June, and currently I'm planning to fly in on TG305 and out on TG306 (I think my flight no's are right). I know that if you fly in and out on the same plane no visa is needed, but I'm unsure of the process. Did you get both boarding passes in BKK? I'll need a visa on my return to RGN 7 days later, and there are no multiple entry visa, so this needs to work.... over to you skywalkerLAX.

Sorry, I was extremely busy since gotten back from this trip.

What exactly are your questions?

Here is what I posted earlier today on FT as I think it's a tragedy to even look at the thread over there (it's not how FT used to be)...

Getting my Visa in HKG was a piece of cake, overnight service (same day pick-up not possible (anymore) even though that has been mentioned in some forum I found through google as well.

Even though I managed my immediate turnaround I do not recommend that procedure, I only accomplished that through sweet talking some of the TG agents which was hard enough as those of you familiar with TG can imagine. When I read suggestions of bribery here I seriously ask myself if this is FT or some amateur platform by now.

same day turn is not a problem but an immediate turnaround (same plane) might become one.

Here are a couple things:

-OLCI doesnt work everytime for the RGN flights (might be a system bug)
-You will need a boarding pass for the return flight, even IF OLCI works it will not provide it (if it works you could theoretically fake yourself one using a template, it will be entered manually in RGN anyway [I have NOT said that])
-TG is refusing to print bp's at another airport for a separate ticket
-The plane has a marginal turnaround time in RGN (30 minutes time difference to BKK)

Either way you will need a visa or the airline of your choice will NOT check you in. The Online Visa still doesnt seem to work unfortunately and is still in test mode.

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I'm currently in the process of booking my positioning flights for a RGN-GRU run at the end of the month. Question: when you say "immediate turnaround", does that mean you flew in on Thai and then flew out on the same plane back to BKK? If so, who did you speak to when you landed to get them to whisk you to departures? I know I shouldn't be optimistic that this will work again, but with the positioning flights as they are, I may have to try it with an immediate turnaround on Thai...

I talked to the ground staff meeting the plane and I already had a boarding pass. The TG Check-In Staff in BKK was refusing it but I had the Business Card of someone pretty high up at TG and that helped clearing the situation. Alternatively see solution above. ;)

By this do you suggest that a six hour layover (ie. not the same plane but the same day arrival and departure) would be possible without using your visa? I understand the airline won't check you in if you don't have one but are you saying that, provided you stay airside, a transit is possible without using up your visa? If so, what are the 'transit' facilities like?

Which online visa are you referring to? This one seems to not be working yet but this one seems to be okay.

No, such a layover would definitely need and invalidate the visa as you can't stay airside for that time I would assume.

The page you mentioned looks dodgy! And it's much more expensive instead of just getting it in BKK, HKG or even Canberra.

It's strange I had an email response very quickly last week from the page that now says "In testing", and they told me to apply twice for each VISA and off you go. I've emailed them now, we'll see if they respond. I'll even call later, but I'd prefer something in writing.

What do you mean by this? I only occasionally view FT compared with AFF which I read every day. FT seems to be filled with an awful lot of cr*p US-based filler which is very irrelevant to Australians, however I can't deny that because of their huge member base they can't find and share a lot more things than AFF can.

(I also dont really like the lay-out of FT and notice that a lot of users fight and argue with each other which is very different to the pleasant, helpful and collegiate nature of AFF!)

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

FYI - I just got my passport back with the Myanmar visa, it was a fairly painless process.

On the 20th April I sent:

  • my passport
  • the visa form from the embassy's website
  • two passport photos
  • a printed letter outlining my flights to Yangon ex SYD, and
  • $35 cash all in a registered envelope

And it was back at my local Post Office by the 9th May with the (full page) visa.

I'm leaving for Myanmar on the 8th June, so I'll post up a quick trip report when I get back (especially the J Silkair flight I've got booked).

Good to know.

Unfortunately, I need three visas, all for use within the space of a month. My understanding is the Embassies won't issue you with more than one single entry visa at a time, hence my interested in utilising a third party website (such as the .com one, above) to get at least one of the visas while I'm travelling. My access to Myanmar Embassies, particularly if they require overnight service, may not be possible.

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

I finally got my email outlining the cancellation of my RGN-SIN-PER-SYD flights from CheapOair.com.

Due to the airlines involved, we were unable to issue the itinerary that you booked. We were unable to find alternate fare options that closely matched the quoted price.

If you are flexible with your travel dates, please call us using our toll free number 866-654-5204, option 2, or forward a copy of this email to [email protected] and provide us alternate dates so we can begin looking for cheaper fare options.

Please refresh my memory: when was this one booked? A month ago (when this thread was started) or in the last couple of weeks? Had your credit card been charged by cheapo? Did you have an e-ticket number?

Re: [fare gone] Yangon to New York, London etc. R/T in C < $800

Both of mine have now been cancelled by Cheapoair. Booked within last 2 weeks. Confirmed but not ticketed. RGN-CAN-PEK-NRT-LAX-DFW-EZE and RGN-SIN-PER-SYD. Easy come, easy go.
