Free Amex Plat Edge flight - can't add Velocity number to booking

Hmm. What card provided your free flight? I'm thinking one of the true Premium cards right?

I made enquiries about mine last week, which is a Plat Edge card, and these book into R class primarily, "Saver" fares and, according to the Amex CSR and reports here at AFF do _not_ earn SC's or FF points.

I'm wondering if the Plat charge or Reserve cards book into "T" class and perhaps _do_ provide SC's and FF points? Any chance you can look at the boarding pass of your last free flight to see if it lists the fare class?

I no longer have the boarding pass sorry.

After going back and refreshing my memory. Not only did I get SC's but I was able to upgrade this flight to the then PE and got SC's at PE level. You might recall the 'taster' ? My flight was in the final days of this offer and upgrades under the 'taster' were treated as PE for SC's and points earn. So I got a PE flight with full benefits for the $50 upgrade fee.

It sounds like I am going to be very disappointed this year with a budget flight and no earn at all. The problem is that if I use the Amex flights and forgo the earn opportunity it has potential to impact my status level if I am running close. So the Platinum Amex is suddenly not worth paying a yearly fee for.

I dare say you got the SC's because you were able to upgrade using the taster upgrade.

That crossed my mind after reading the comments here. Stands to reason. The taster also allowed unofficial upgrade from a saver fare for Velocity Gold members so I can't assume that the Amex flight was a flexi either.

Bring back the Taster !
