I think it's great they are doing something, but why the trial ? and why not just implement them now on all flights.

Virgin knows how portable devices work they have been using them for years.....
 
The article is not clear but perhaps wifi is the issue - not sure if the Tabs will use Wifi though at this stage or pre-loaded content.

As I understand it, Phase 1 is preloaded content, with phase 2 introducing wifi.

Why trial? Because they might not be durable, the pax may not like them, the inflight content may be difficult to update, or maybe they can't get hold of x,000 of them right now. Who knows....:?:
 
Looks like a media release rather than a news story, are they promoting the trial as PR while they await delivery of the gear.

Any trial I've ever been involved in has no media coverage, it's a trial. You tell everyone once the roll out starts.

IMHO it's just PR rather than a trial.
