I was fortunate enough to have received a Qantas first lounge pass following the recent airline dispute. I'm flying to the UK in April and really want to make the most of the pass so I'd like some guidance from those that have been before. My flight leaves Mel at 15.30 (QF9) so would like to know the following:

What is the earliest time that i'll be able to check in for the flight?
What is the earliest time that i'll be able to access the lounge?
Am I able to pre book a massage or is this just for platinum members?
Plus any other tips!

thanks in advance

Some of these questions are answered here:

Technically, check-in is at T-3 or 3.5 hours, but you may have some luck checking in earlier if the desks are open for other flights (also depending on what class your flight is, eg I imagine the F check-in suite might be more amenable than the regular Y or J desks) - since your flight is at a relatively busy time, you are might have better luck at early check-in but it depends on the person checking you in so you should be prepared to wait until the check-in officially opens. The only way to really avoid this is to connect from another city, checking your bags and getting your boarding pass at the other port.

The earliest you can access the lounge is immediately after you check-in and clear customs / immigration / the duty-free obstacle course. Assuming you don't mean when does the lounge open (0430, unless they decide to close it between cancelled flights as they have done so for me when on JQi once or twice).

You can book a massage as soon as you get there if there are any available - assuming you're not entitled to use the F check-in, where they can try to phone ahead for you and book it in before you get there.

Enjoy the visit! Don't forget to try the AFF favoured salt and pepper squid. ;)

[EDIT] Here's the latest seasonal menu so you can plan ahead.

Thanks for the information and link. I'm flying premium economy (points request to business) but im SG so will check in at business counter. I've heard so much about the squid so i'll definitely give it a try!!

What he said! And for the record Platinums cannot pre-book massages either, only people flying in F.

The steak is normally a ripper as well. :) (I've managed the squid (entree), steak (main) and on one occasion a dessert as well., but that was most definitely an exception).

Enjoy your visit.

As they say at Qantas - enjoy

Last time I used the Lounge i couldn't check in before 3.5 hours before the flight. This was because of my checked bags. Of course if you are travelling with carry on only you can print your BP and go straight through at whatever time you like. This may change when QF29 moves to an afternoon flight (leaves at 14:30) that they may check you in further than 3.5 hours out.

Either way enjoy the lounge and make sure you have the Salt and Pepper squid!

Served if you reach the lounge before midday

You can check in online up to 24 hours before, but someone at the airport will have to sight your passport. As others have said if you have checked bags the earliest you can check in is 3 to 3.5 hours before departure.

If you have carry on only or your bags are checked in from a connecting flight then you could get in first thing in the morning. Sometimes if you are the first person through immigration for your flight there can be a slight delay as immigration open the flight.

A few times I have caught a domestic flight from BNE and got to the lounge at midday. I think I was the only passenger for the first hour. I had lunch, a quick massage, did some work and then had a light dinner.

Only first class and chairmen's lounge passengers can pre-book a spa treatment before they arrive at the lounge. You will be able to book one when you get there. Get there early (3 hours before) and you should be fine.

Unfortunately the pavlova in a glass is no longer on the menu - or at least it wasn't in December and I was most disappointed!

The pavlova in a glass was in the Melbourne flounge last Saturday and tasted pretty good.

It was definitely in the SYD Flounge 28 Jan as around 30 people will vouch for that!

I'm in Sydney Flounge next Saturday, but it's at breakfast time so I won't get to have it if it's back!

If you're lucky your flight will be delayed a few hours so you can check it out! :p (Strictly just joking ;)).

Love the pav, hate the fairy floss. Like eating sugared vacuum cleaner dust (well...what I imagine that would taste like)

I'd be happy with that as then I'd also get to use the spa! The flight is at 9:30 and the spa only opens at 9 unfortunately.

It's entirely possible - we are flying LAN to Auckland!
