Hi all,
As promised in the link below back in Dec, this thread is going to be about an AA status run that I'm currently on. I figure I'll be spending a fair bit of time in Admiral's Clubs with not much else to do...so why not?
To be honest it's probably going to be a pretty boring thread, but I did promise! Also apologies to those avid trip report readers who love to hear about pushback times, runways etc...I'm not going to be that specific (because I don't really care about those things
).

Although I've been a WP for the last ~4 years, I've never actually done a real status run. Sure I've maximized routing in the past, but never flown purely for the purpose of earning SCs. So why now? Well I'd resigned myself to the fact I might lose WP this year*, but when a regular Melbourne gig came up, along with a 50% bonus SC offer from QF, I realized I was going to get close(ish) to requalifying. Then when Gold Member helped me decode his original post in the thread above, and I realised I could get the fare during my time in NYC, I decided I wasn't really willing to lose WP after all! I wasn't hugely keen on wasting a day of my honeymoon flying around the US, but hey...these are the things we do (my wife obviously thinks it's a bit strange...but she loves the F lounge access so understands...sort of)!
So with that sorted and 3A allocated on each flight, this morning it was a 5:30am wake up to head to JFK. Big security queues at 6:30am but that was to be expected on a work day. Into the Flagship lounge (which is definitely a different F lounge to the one I visited in 2009) for a quick breakfast, then a short walk to the gate. The JFK F lounge is pretty similar to the ORD lounge, but bigger. Similar food and drink selection (i.e. average compared to a QP, but excellent compared to an Admirals' Club!)
JFK-BOS was uneventful and over in a heartbeat. We had a 737 with a very new-looking interior (not NGBC) compared to the MD80 F class I've spent many flights in over the years. Snack was a cookie and a drink...and there's not much else to say! Landed on time and am now sitting in the AC waiting for BOS-ORD. I had to pick up my return boarding passes at the desk here - I half-expected some quizzical looks, but nothing! Either they didn't really look at the departure times (I have about 50min in OMRD), or they're used to status runners.
Anyway, I won't bore you any longer for now. Will report back from ORD or if anything interesting happens beforehand.
Cheers

*According to the law of averages some members talk about here, my lifetime SCs still average out to be >1,400 per year since I joined QFF, but no offer of comp this year. I was comped once in the past (2 yrs ago), but qualified legitimately last year.
