What are you doing for Valentines Day?

Valentine's Day? Meh ... I'm going to work ...

"Our" day is the 18th - will mark 23 years since meeting ... After breakfast, I'm off on a day trip to BNE for a meeting! (She's staying home).

Ditto somewhere near CKY. Was going to send some flowers to my +1, but general consensus here seems to be not to:!:

drron, I just had a chuckle to myself, we're both spending it alone and at a port of a similar code! *KY

After 32 years of marriage we will have a quiet one at home, nice meal and a bottle of wine..

Usually go to more trouble with Birthdays.

I like surprising my wife, two years ago it was with a weekend at The Hilton Sydney.

Told her on the morning to get packed and ready, without telling her where we were going.

Last year was a weekend in Auckland.

Don't know what to do this year.

Partner and I ( both male) always invite our cleaner over for V day dinner, ( she's in her 60's and a bit like a 2nd mother to us.) We like to tell people the next day that " there were three of us on valentines day"

I'll be in Nevada... actually staying at a lady friends house... but it's not a romantic situation, or visit, in any way.

In fact we'll be working up loads for some 1911's in readiness for a competition...:mrgreen:;)

*sigh* There'll be no love for Lawlass on Valentine's Day.

But even when I was all partnered up and got stuff I thought it was a ridiculous cash grab for Hallmark and florists so I'm good with that

Aww. Actually it is amazing who you can meet on valentines day if you head out. Certainly has happened to me in the past.

Agree it is a hallmark scam and perpetuated by many others. If you are truely in love and over the age of 25 then you should be able to see through the illusion.

Well, perhaps not general consensus. Still, I hear that they're a bit more sentimental in the UK compared to in Australia, and perhaps more so in Ireland. Arrange for something special :)

Is that the reason why people go to such places on Valentine's Day? Doubt you will be needing that... :p

Awwww... *hug*

I suppose it may be all Hallmark and what not, but if there's one day to make an excuse for love then that's what it takes. I know we shouldn't be so cold and stoney that we forget to acknowledge those who we love, but sometimes it takes an excuse to do so (birthdays are another such day, and Christmas...). That's not a pleasant statement to write; sorry it came out the wrong way. Not to say Hallmark is an ethical or moral company....

As for me, still single and not looking yet, so nothing planned for Valentine's Day. Not intent on going out and finding someone or speed dating. A friend's birthday falls on the same day, but I doubt she will have a big celebration (usually reserves that day for family).

Basically mrsdrron and myself do not involve ourselves in commercially promoted gift giving. If we want to get something for each other we do it regardless of whether the day is meant to be special or not.
If we want a romantic dinner in an uncrowded restaurant in QLD we have found it is best to go on a State of Origin night-restaurants around our way are virtually deserted then.

Other half will be winging her way to Asia on the 14th, but (me) being of a like mind to some others re "commercial" occasions, I don't think it would have made any difference had she been here.

I'll be single like every other Valentines Day, and expect it to pass me by without even noticing. Then again, it's Chilli's birthday so I'm sure I'll spend the day with her, celebrating 12/84 years!



We're with the drrons - we choose to celebrate our relationship in ways and at times with disregard for the dictates of either calendar or commerce. That particular week should be full of such celebration anyway, as we'll be on holidays and our nearest airport (no sly allusion intended) will be cough. :D
