Anyone got any exciting plans for Valentines Day this year?

I was reminded about the special day by my partner and I must admit - I actually forgot.

I just called Centurion to see what they could "muster up" for me... what an interesting experience to say the least. Call went like this:

[Ring Ring]
Operator: "Welcome to Centurion Concierge"
Me: "Hi, I was wondering if you could suggest a few ideas for Valentines Day dinner for me and my partner"
Operator: "I can send you a list of fine dining Centurion restaurants"
Me: "Ok but last year there was a whole heap of information that was sent out re: special menus and functions at partner restaurants - is this not...[interrupted]"
Operator: "No... I will send you the list and I can call them up and see re: availability"
Me: "So do you know if there many restaurants are booked out?"
Operator: "Yeah, a lot of them are booked out"
Me: "Which ones?"
Operator: "I don't know"
Me: "What do you mean? Im sure were not the first V day request coming through to you guys?"
Operator: "Look - there are 50 operators here... [rambled something like how was she meant to know what restaurants were booked out when there are so many operators individually calling up restaurants]"

This was where I cracked the sh!ts. I forget exactly how the call went, as I was red with rage, but she was the most unhelpful & surly concierge person I ever spoke to. I thought, the one bloody difficult-ish request I sent through to them and they are pushing back on me?

Anyway, she is going to check with a few colleagues and let me know whats booked out and what isn't (though - this wasn't forthcoming, much like pulling teeth). I also mentioned that it might be an idea for her and her colleagues to put together a register of some kind so they can be more responsive with future Valentines day requests from other card members. As if it's that hard?

SO... I might not have anything to do on V day, depending on how this one pans out. I could just try again with my favourite Cent Concierge guy, whose name will remain silent on this forum for fear of loosing him to the masses

OK... obviously it wasn't terribly difficult for her because received an email about 15 mins after the phone call - with about a dozen options.

At least she is efficient...

Not a lot - don't need to!

Married for 43 years after a blind date............................and I was a sailor! (You'd think I'd know better?)

Back in 2006 I took my wife to Tetsuya for V.D.......was told when booking (the day before) that the setting would be shared tables not couples. Being the casual bloke that I am, I said no worries.....turned up & the wife wasn't that pleased but, when else can you get in at Tet's at the last minute?

Great night, shared a table with 6 other couples - one guy was a gold trader & told us to buy "GOLD NOW" as it would hit $900 an ounce.........don't ask:(

Fortunately this year I won't have to spend Valentines Day evening with the CEO of a sister company. After two nightmares of being in restaurants with him and being offered roses by dusky Italian looking maidens I finally get to spend it at home. With a bit of luck MrsH will go out so I can enjoy a rare quiet night at home!

Valentines Day = just another Hallmark holiday.

My wife (and I) would rather do the things most people do on Valentines day, on another day, at 1/4 the price.

I'll be freezing my butt off in Daejeon, Korea meeting with some of our Suppliers, while my wife enjoys the peace and quiet of me not being home. :-|

That's an unfortunate use of an abbreviation... hadn't quite connected the two until you brought it to my attention :o

Yeah, I put the . between the V D & then LOL:mrgreen:

Me and my partner will be packing our suitcases for our flight to KL and Hanoi the next day so nothing terribly romantic planned

We are a romantic bunch, aren't we?

Fortunately, when it comes to Valentines Day, I don't need to call my credit card company to arrange something or get inspiration. This is an intimate day for two people who care about each other. I don't even get my PA to arrange things.

I will be taking +1 to one of our favourite restaurants for dinner, followed by a nice bottle of champagne in our hotel.

I'm with some others with the "Hallmark" thing. It is a bit American, however, the good restaurants don't charge extra on the night and we both get enough flowers during the year that we don't pay the stupid prices florists charge on the day.

I hope you all get to spend it with someone you love!

It's a "school" night and my gym night with the trainer, so unlikely to do anything in particular. We might see about dinner another night on the weekend or something like that. No flowers, Mr Katie knows if he wants to give me 1 doz red roses or similar, to do so randomly another time of the year. Ditto for me to him. :)
Ooh - just had an idea. Maybe we could do our own Flounge run on a weekend. :p

Not much as we make more of an occasion for our anniversary (dinner, nights away, gift competitions etc) than Valentines Day.

Greg.

Somewhat surprising considering your PA appears to do everything for you besides wiping your bum.

He takes care of most things for me. And so he should.. He's paid well to do so.

I know I have a different attitude to you, but if my +1 got his PA, or credit card company to look after OUR Valentines day, I wouldn't feel it was something from him. That's why I have arranged our Valentines day.

I know my +1 a heck of a lot more than my bank or PA does, so I'm certain everything will be perfect for him.

Oh dear... this is the most depressing post I've ever read! Not that I am a big reader...
How did we all get so cynical!! Oh that's right... you're all blokes (sorry Katie)!! Glad Mr Boss is out there :)
Have a great day valentine's day... try to remember what it was like to be romantic <3
