I'm considering looking at booking a MNL-HKG-DXB return in J with CX, but I'm not sure what conditions CX put on bookings from the Philippines. I know QF make it hard. Anyone booked CX out of MNL? Also, if I was to book QF, how do I do it, considering I won't be able to get there within 2 days of the booking. I read somewhere that you can transfer funds, do I need to call the agent to arrange this, then they book the fares?

Thanks in advance!

Below are QF's arrangements - not sure about CX. Booking on a third-party website such as Orbitz may get around these issues.

The Philippine Government requires that tickets for all international travel originating in the Philippines be issued only in the Philippines.
  • If payment for a ticket is collected in Australia, for travel commencing in the Philippines, a Prepaid Ticket Advice (PTA) must be sent by Qantas in Australia to Qantas in the Philippines, for ticket issue.
  • Fares must be quoted as sold in Australia, ticketed in Philippines.
  • There may be additional taxes, fees, surcharges and charges applicable. The Qantas Industry Centre (QIC) will quote your booking to ensure the correct fare, taxes, fees, surcharges, charges and Service Fee are collected.
  • Payment can be submitted by v-MPD via the Qantas Industry Sales Site, Online Service Ticket Request. Once payment has been received by Qantas, the ticket is deemed to be issued.
  • A Service Fee of AUD60.00 per booking (PNR) applies to send a PTA. Any changes to the booking once payment has been received will incur any applicable change fees, additional taxes, fees, charges and surcharges, plus the QIC Service Fee.
  • PTAs can only be sent Monday to Friday 0900-1800 AEDST.
  • The passenger must contact the General Sales Agent (GSA) for Qantas in Manila to arrange ticket issue against the PTA. A local Service Fee of PHP1500 per passenger applies to tickets issued against PTA's raised on/after 15 September 2011, to be paid direct to:
    HT&T Travel Philippines
10th Floor Salustiana D Ty Towers
    104 Paseo de Roxas
    Legaspi Village, Makati City
Open hours: 8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Friday
    Telephone Number: (632) 812 0607
  • The GSA for Qantas then issues an e-ticket and emails a copy of the passenger(s) Itinerary/Receipt to the email address provided in the Ticket Request or hands a copy to the passenger(s) in the office.

I have booked CX flights ex-MNL, using the CX website, from Australia using an Australian credit card, with no problems; the only requirement I had to meet was to present the actual physical credit card at checkin at MNL.

This is great news! Now onto looking into flights!

Make sure you take a copy of your CX itinerary/receipt with you as you may be required to present it on arrival in MNL at customs and immigration to show when you intend to leave the country.

Good point! Also, when you fly back to MNL, they will want to see your onward itinerary at checkin as proof that you intend to leave the country.

I'm glad you reminded me! I had a similar issue flying into the USA last year. I'll make sure I have everything!

Have all your paperwork when going to MNL airport.

They won't even let you in the terminal if you don't have an itinerary with refernce numbers.

I had nothing on me except my ph diary but one of the guys I was travelling with had me on there travel documents.

Indeed you will require proof of intention to depart Phil's before any carrier will allow you to board inbound flight.

As pointed out you will not be granted entry into any terminal at NAIA unless you have hard or e-ticket or similar travel docs - weird part is like who in their right mind would ever want to stay in Phil's long term?
