One of the bugbears of PC is that IC hotels earn 2000 points per stay. In the US this is changing from Feb 15:

-InterContinental Hotels & Resorts outside of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean plus all InterContinental Alliance Resorts worldwide, you will receive 2,000 points per Qualifying Stay or the applicable airline miles, which may vary by participating airline;

-Effective 2012 February 15, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean plus all Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express hotel brands worldwide, you will receive ten (10) points for each USD dollar or local currency equivalent paid toward Eligible Charges on your individual hotel room bill, when you pay Qualifying Room Rates, or the applicable airline miles;

Hopefully this change will spread to all parts of the world...

This change is long overdue...it is ridiculous that you could stay at an expensive IC for a week and only earn 2000 PC pts!

Agreed that it's well overdue. Hope it comes here sooner than later.

Or 4000 if you are RA, regardless I still always change my earnings preference to airline miles when at an IC in Aus!

It has always bugged me that I have only get 3,000 (2,000 + 1,000 Plat) points per stay even when I have stayed for 6 nights at a time!
Hopefully things will change in Australia too in the near future!

Good change, but hopefully rolled out worldwide.

It's crazy how little you earn at their top tier hotel.

Markis10. That is a great idea.

Do you only need to change before the stay, or before you make the booking. Am I right that you get 3 points per dollar for Qantas and Virgin? Do your previous PC points remain there for when you change back to earning PC points?

You just have to change it before it posts, usually within 2-4 days of the stay, its 3 points per $, and it does not impact other stays

Thanks so much for that Markis10. That is exactly what I will do. Much appreciated.

Maybe the rest of the world will happen. According to their media release:

“We're delighted to enhance our program in the Americas and hope to be in a position to extendour offer to the rest of the world in due course,” said Simon Scoot, vice president, Global Brand Management, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. “It’s incredibly important that we retain and grow the loyalty of our guests and reward them as best we can.”
