Seating on QF's direct SYD-DFW route

Hi Ferni, I'm flying this in 2 weeks and am also QF Gold and was able to select 39C when it was booked a few months ago - so the seats were open for gold straight away. Here's hoping you can get one if the blocked ones are opened up.

Pumped now to understand why it wa this configuration. I had phoned QF a while back to enquire about the seating and they just told me it was Y but I didn't realise it was a PE seat.

Yeah I've got an EF seat alert setup for these 4 rows. I can see seat availability in these 4 rows on this flight this week that I could pick (if i were on that flight). Hopeful that later this week seat availability will open up for for my flight next friday.

I'm travelling to DFW on the 18th Jan, returning 25th Jan in PE, got row 30 both ways so looking forward to the better seat, and service isn't that important to me on such a long flight..

What do they do in Brisbane? All off the plane I assume, but do you get to go around the terminal or they restrict you to the gate?

Standard international transit.

Exit aircraft (take everything with you), head though security to Air-side departures - maybe head to the Business/First lounges if you have access.

Re-board as normal.

Ah ok. I don't see Much of BNE international terminal so might go for a walk... I have had international transits where the restricted onward passengers to the gate lounge, albeit for only 30mins or so. but that has been frustrating.
 
Best Seats for QF7 SYD to DFW on 4/02/12

Hi Everyone,

I have 2 colleagues travelling to the states with me and I've booked and paid for us all in J on QF7 heading to DFW on 4th of Feb. From there we head to New Orleans, NY, Chicago with a flying finish to LA to jump on QF12 ( yep A380) again in J on the 15th Feb landing back in Syd on the 17th.

With my WP Status we have seats assigned as follow's -

QF7 - 11a 11b 11c
QF12 - 13a 13b 13c

Upstairs of QF7 is full but the old F area downstairs has quite a few open to change to. Has the upgrades of this plane taken place to make it a yay or nay to swap??? and what is the pre selected QF12 seats like? should I change that as well?

Rows 1, 2 or 3 are the best seats on either configuration. Zone A beats upper every time.

Swap is done. On QF7 I've moved us all to F area downstairs in row 3. I've left us in row 13 on QF12.

Was someone mentioning that they turn the lights down for "sleep mode" soon after taking off on QF7 ?

Yes, the flight is in "sleep mode" until about an hour (maybe a bit more) out of DFW. It's quite a shock when they open the shades and you see full daylight outside.
 
I'm QFF Gold and finally this morning (T-3) a few seats in rows 36-39 opened up for me for my Economy QF7 flight on Friday.

Managed to snag 37A happy with that.

The EF alert email came in about 30mins after I'd already noticed and selected my seat so bit of lag with EF alerts.

Hi - interested to know if anyone has any insights on when they are likely to start replacing the old 4 class config aircraft on the SYD/DFW route. I have a PE booking March 5 and its showing me in the forward seats, back of J I believe. Not sure whether to put in for an upgrade for both of us, or run with the hope that the aircraft will still be the old config then.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes T - 80 hours would of been about 7:40 this morning.

I think I read somewhere they are going to replace them in Feb sometime. You could always put in your upgrade request now and then just cancel it if you decide you don't need it closer to the date?

Two have been refurbished and are operating QF15/QF16.

The third is scheduled to start operating QF7/QF8 DFW in February. This seat map has started appaearing for some flights.

If you are in rows 29/30 you have Skybeds.

Some people might get confused the T-3 as the numbers reflect the hours prior to departure not days. :oops: If your travel date is 3 days away it's really T-72 or whatever the actual hours are as T-3 would mean 3 hours prior to departure not 3 days. :cool:

Why not cover all bases & do the waitlist now for the points upgrade so you're in with a chance while you monitor the seap map regularly. If closer to the time you find the a/c config is only (the new) 3 class one then leave the J upgrade request in. However if the seat map still shows it as a 4 class config you have the option of cancelling your upgrade request & end up travelling in a better seat.

I'd find out from QF the latest date you can cancel your upgrade request before they action the points upgrade requests for J, particularly now they are advising FF's earlier if they've been successful or not.

You need a full subscription to Expert Flyer (EF) to do this, however IMHO it is so worth it & if you are an AFF Gold member (not QF ff) you get a discount on the EF membership.

A flight alert is automatic notification when a specific fare bucket category in flight inventory becomes available eg if you were chasing a JASA or Classic award in J you could set a flight alert for QF11 date SYD/LAX in "U" class & receive an email from EF when seats become available.

A seat alert is automatic notification when a specific seat number currently occupied or not available for selection becomes available ie 80A on the A380 for QF11 SYD/LAX or 2A on QF7 SYD/DFW.

It's really like having a fairy godmother who works at an airline looking for seat allocation or availability 24/7 which saves you doing it. :p

Ahh ok didn't know that - for some reason I thought people were talking about days not hours when they said T minus..

So after T-80 does your status come into it at all or would Bronzes also be able to select the same seats as me?

I do notice that EF is showing some seats still blocked.

All that can really be stated is that seating availability changes; seats that were not available to many become available.

This varies betwixt flights etc. ...
