Thanks Ken!

Considering I haven't received anything today it should be here by monday.

Card's ? What do they send in the package ?

I received two supplementary cards as well as mine, for my Wife and Son. In the package is a large book that details the various benefits of the Platinum card, including applications in the back for various benefits including Priority Pass and Starwood Gold status. There were also small booklets with insurance and card terms and conditions.

So here is my history with this application:

..........

I think this is a great deal even with a 900$ fee (which I admit is a bit steep compared to what AX charges in other countries). 80k Points, Priority Pass, Insurance Products (by the way, does this card have car rental insurance??), some hotel status IIRC but it doesnt apply to me as I'm already Top Tier with SPG. The Reserve Card which is supposedly included would bring the free flight on DJ. Sweet!

Did anyone take advantage of Cathay Pacific Gold for one year? They have this promo in EU and North America at least.

Will I pay 900$ next year? Probably not, though I will put all my charges on this card the next 12 Months as HSBC Rewards SUCK big time. Maybe AX gives me a discount for the annual fee 12 months from now.

Cheers
S

Ring AMEX prior to your renewal fee being due next year and you might (I managed to) get a discount on the fee. Some have failed (see above) but I managed to with one ten minute call get it cut to $450.

Total nightmare... still haven't received my card despite they supposedly mailed it out on the 18th. Considering I live in the Sydney Area this is not a good sign. Lost in mail?

The CSR said it might have to do with christmas mail backlog but by now I stop believing in this story.

It's only been 8 working days since the 18th (that was a Saturday..) including the Aust Post holiday on Friday (no mail deliveries)... I think its entirely plausible it's still on its way to you...

Hope you receive it next Tuesday, otherwise between now and next tuesday, nothing much more can be done anyway. Happy New Year!

Well... I'm in Perth now on Christmas/New Years Travel. They said living in the Sydney area it should reach me before christmas. Unfortunately this way I was unable to put either my Boxing Day shopping, nor the US Airways miles I had to buy yesterday on the card. Few points lost there... oh well.

The whole application process was disfunctional and took forever. Talked to a customer service supervisor and he promised me some sort of credit once I receive the card. Interesting enough: They said I would not 'fit their profile' for the Reserve Supplementary Card but approved the Edge. Huh? Anyway... Let's hope it's there when I get back on Thursday.

Happy NY ! :)

The 40 K is paid on approval of the referee.

My 80K was paid, but was late.

Has the Amex Platinum Charge Card always had a 1.5 points per dollar cap of $200,000 per annum? I don't remember it last time I looked but could have been mistaken:

"Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program. Every $1 spent on your Card earns up to 1.5 Membership Rewards points up to $200,000 each year, reverting to one point for every dollar thereafter."

The NAB Qantas Platinum card offers "Earn unlimited points, fast" - the full 1.5 points per dollar spent uncapped, as does the Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Card, which cost A$250ea v A$900 for the Amex Plat Charge Card...

Does anyone know why there is such a low cap for 1.5 points per $ spend on this premium Amex charge card?!

I don't think the NAB Qantas platinum is 1.5 uncapped, i only thought it was 1:1

the plat charge card has always had a cap on 1.5:1 before it reverts to 1:1

EDIT: it does earn 1.5:1 uncapped... i thought it was.. my bad

Amex Plat Charge Card also includes the Platinum Reserve Credit Card which also earns 1.5 points per dollar, up to $100,000, so that gives you a total earn of 450k points for $300k over the two cards before you go back to 1 point per $. Still not uncapped, which I find surprising when less expensive bank branded Amex cards, such as NAB Qantas Platinum and Westpac Krisflyer Platinum offer 1.5 points for $1 uncapped.

Anyway, there you go. Hope it helps someone.

I've got both but can't remember the last time I blew the cap... I always thought they were higher..

At least i know if i do blow it i can use the NAB amex card instead!

Re: Want to give me 40,000 points? (Amex refer a friend program...)

... just received my card today, make that yesterday, and was checking out the website.

.

If you had read the posts in this thread, not to mention other threads you should have realised that we are well aware of the promotion.

I did spend a couple of hours here searching and reading threads on the Amex Platinum Charge Card late last night, as you might be able to see from the time stamps on my posts, but did not come across it this promotion - first I had heard of it.

Sorry for the inadvertent reposting of already known information, I don't have enough time to read all posts on all threads but I guess I should have done a keyword search first.

Back to lurking...

Referral promotion was mentioned in Posts 86 and 87. Your first post was next at 88.

I can only assume that then you had not read the two posts prior to yours as you may then have then "come across" the promotion in at least this thread.

Not meaning to be rude, but when a point is clearly mentioned very recently in a thread, it is a bit unusual for someone to then post only several posts afterwards about something "new".

I see what you mean, it is rather unusual and I don't quite know how I could have overlooked them. It was late after a long day but no excuse.

I completely understand that it might be annoying to read someone's 'new' discovery of old news, so sorry about that, will try to be more careful next time.

ANSWER 2

Well that was quick.

My wife just received her shiny new Amex Plat and activated it a couple of days ago.

We just set up tonight access online for the card and on logging on for the first time noticed that the 80,000 bonus points had already posted without a single $ yet having been spent!!!!! :)

So they have not in this case waited for the $500 minumum spend.

However it is list as being from the "Refer a fried camapign". So it looks like under that program that points are awarded to both referer and referee on approval.

Card FINALLY arrived on monday after I ordered a replacement.

Spent a couple hundred $ in the past few days, received first statement on wednesday. Paid same day.

80,000 MR Points have been credited today! Pleasant surprise after all this ordeal!

Hi,First post for me on the site but am a fan of lurking!I applied yesterday for the Platinum Card 80,000 points offer, having been a "loyal" Amex Gold Card holder for 25 years. Have done my research and made several calls which seemed to contradict each other. The first call that sound like it may have gone to an off shore call centre said I would not be eligible for the 80,000 points promotion as I was an existing Amex customer, yet a Sydney based employee yesterday reaffirmed I would indeed be eligible as I was a "new" Platinum customer.Has anyone else struck the same and/or are you able to change up and get access to the promotion?CheersTRUSTY

If you applied via the relevant website link you'll be fine. I upgraded from a Platinum Crdit Card to the Charge Card and it was no issue.

Be warned, once you qualify for the 80k points (after spending $500) you may need to hound AMEX into giving them to you.
