SYD-PER upgrade to J worth the points?

Am flying SYD-PER shortly and, as it'll be our first time flying with our newborn, am considering buring some points to upgrade myself and Mrs BKB, to make the flight a little more comfortable.

However, the flight is on a 767 with a 2-2-2 configuration and, based on some limited research, I think this means the older domestic J seats, as opposed to the newer, international style? If so, my question is, is it worth the 32k points to ugrade the two of us, versus the space we will have in Y in a bassinet location?

I fly SYD-PER about every 2 - 6 weeks and on the 747 and 332 with Skybeds I think the upgrade is one of the best value in Aust.
Usually have to depend on at QP points upgrades :evil: but it is worth it for sure.

as Markis10 mentions the Y bassinet spot is good. The 767 won't have seat IFE, but it will have the better seats and meal too.. I've done it a few times from MEL-PER

Absolutely depends on the plane.
Old config on 737 then row 4 Y has more legroom than J
New config then much more comfy in J

I tend to upgrade depnding on plane and which direction of flight. It's a much longer flight East to West, sometimes up to 2 hours more, so more justifiable to splurge the points.

If you have the points then yes it is definitely worth it, especially if your baby will sleep for most of the flight so you can relax and enjoy the J cabin. For me the much more helpful level of service in J always helps a lot with the baby wrangling.

I've never flown on that aircraft with Baby G but assume they have a bassinet point in row 1 of J?

There's only one bassinet in J on a 767 which is in front of 1J. Trouble is sometimes these seats are chosen by WPs at the time of booking or at a time when nil status pax cannot access row 1 so you're not guaranteed getting it.

Similarly in whY quite often WP's will grab the bassinet rows days prior to departure so even if you OLCI at T-24 you won't be able to get them & of course it's way too late by the time you arrive at the airport.

You can always add an SSR (special service request) of BSCT into your booking but as per what I've said above by the time passenger name lists cut across from the res system to the checkin system around T-72 chances are that WP's have already taken those rows.

Depending on which 767 you travel on there can be 1, 2 or 4 bassinet rows.

25/204 config: 1J / 23J
30/222 config: 1J / 23B / 23J
30/214 config: 1J / 23E / 26B / 26E / 26J

I guess one thing you could do if you were able to pre-allocate a seat is maybe choose 23J for Mrs BKB & 26J for yourself to cover all bases but you then run the risk of not being able to get the matching 23K or 26K seat on the day & sit together.

T-80 has worked for me getting Row 1 around 15 times this year.

It depends on the status loadings.

As an NB I could get Row 1 on a 738 outside T-80, however as a PS, I can only get Row 4/5 for QF67 currently for March. I am hoping it opens up before then.

It is kind of semi-related, but best seats for a couple (J) in the 333?

Since last year I have never been able to access row 1 on domestic flights until T-80 - narry a problem internationally. (Not that I travel Business class that much.)

For the OP, if you have access to E/F, you may be able to check if the 1J/K seats are still available for your flight.
