Can someone give me the name of a current suitable SIM card for purchasing and using in Shanghai. I'll be there for a week in May and would love to have a local SIM for a handful of phone calls and 100MB of data for email on iPhone.

I've seen mentions of China Unicom and China Mobile.

Any guidance gratefully received.

What Alby said. I will be spending just over two weeks in China - Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu and Hong Kong in Jan/Feb and would like to know the answer also.
Cheers

I don't recall the brand I ended up with. I just went to the concierge at the first hotel at which I stayed. I gave him the equivalent of ~AUD$10 and he sent one of the juniors off to a local shop. He came back, loaded it into my phone and loaded the first credit.

Then it just worked for the balance of the week I was there.

I also specified I wanted data and that happened as well.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

oh - that is a brilliant idea. I am staying somewhere swish(ish) to start, so I am sure they can sort it out for me.
Thanks so much Alby.
PS. Any tips on my time in Shanghai?

Go to Xintiadies, the trendy place to be seen in Shanghai.

I was there last year for Expo and loved Shanghai.

Albatross has also listed many great places.
