Given all the knocks afforded to Qantas recently (some well deserved) I thought I’d better sing their praises for the recent customer service they provided to Mrs. Bulldog (QF Platinum).

We have been procrastinating over a 6-week USA trip with the in-laws and our 12-month-old daughter to visit family & have a holiday. After much maneuvering of dates and destinations, we couldn’t find 4 J classic award seats (unless you count the J MEL-SYD, then Y MEL – LAX ) in June/July on Qantas.com.

Mrs. Bulldog phoned Qantas and lodged a request to release an additional 4 J classic award seats, 24hrs later we had 4 J MEL-LAX, LAX-MEL (both A380) confirmed.

I’m not sure how common an experience this has been for others, but well done Qantas for looking after one of your many frequent flyers. I was hopeful they would facilitate the request, however thought that 4 J classic award seats in June/July might be pushing the friendship.

PS: Special thanks to Cove for the invaluable advice to stop at LAX before proceeding any further north to YVR with our young daughter, we are now looking at traveling to LAS first and moving up to YVR.

Cheers,

Adam

Well done on the J seats and yes that is a very nice story. I will join Mrscove as a Platinum in about 6 weeks because I read what Qantas said in a message.
I am glad you liked the idea of stopping in Los Angeles!
There has been zillions spent on Las Vegas just for you and we really enjoyed YVR for the sights.

That's great news, kudos to QFF. Think I might be pushing my luck if I asked for 6 classic awards SYD-LAX during the July school hols ?
Seriously though a great result :)

Maybe if you ask for three and Shrek asks for three ... ;)

Great news. Good to hear of the 'good stuff' happening too.

Hoping AA are able to work with CX and QF in Jan on a trip end year where we'll need 2 x J.

Good on you Bulldog. Thinking of doing the old WP whisper ourselves soon.

If you don't mind me asking, how many points / how much did they charge you as an award assistance fee for making this booking? I've read here that it should be 3500 per person / $30 per person, but the QFF site leads me to believe it is in fact 6000 / $60.

6000 is what I was charged for an International Award booking starting this Thursday!

The assisted award booking fee went up early last year (aftter a stages increase from late 2009). In July 2010 I was offered the choice of 6000 QFF points or $60 per PAX for an assisted award booking (It was showing I9 U1, I needed ... U2).

sorry to hijack, but since this is a QF praise thread, id like to share the most excellent domestic J service i have received on sat (19/11).

it was on QF922 from SYD-CNS. best crew ive ever met, CSM introduced himself by name to each passenger, shook my hand, offered food..taken pre lunch drink orders (first time ive seen on a domestic flight???) and then proceeded to have a lovely 20 mins conversation with me. made my trip a lot more interesting. had a proper meal too on board.

this is why after all the **** has gone down, i still fly Qantas

I'm really happy to hear your good news - up until recently I thought securing 4 or more J or F seats on a A380 was the stuff of dreams, similar to lottery wins. AFF has shown me otherwise!

Really good stuff :)
