hi peeps,

first of all, thanks to all the posters that have unknowingly helped me since I joined AFF

secondly, I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but I wanted to make sure before I booked my flights

I need to fly Adelaide to Delhi and return to Brisbane via Perth. On the QF site I can see ADL>SYD>SIN>DEL with the SIN>DEL leg being on Jet Airways (looks like 70 SCs). Return I can see DEL>SIN>PER>BNE.

Now, can I fly some other airline, say CX, AA or BA (OneWorld alliance) and earn exactly the same number of SCs as if I flew QF? Also, If I fly the other airline, will I get lounge access at the various airports. Just to clarify, I am Silver QC. I would like to maximise my SC earnings and will probably be in DE or E class, employer pays :-(

Thanks

Welcome to AFF RooAvery!

As a Qantas Club member you can access the Qantas lounges on a QF, BA or JQ flight number. For Partner lounges can only access BA lounge before a BA flight and an AA lounge before an AA flight. Look here for clarification.

Also just watch out for the booking classes on other airlines as some earlines do not earn SCs on QFF for cheaper booking classes. CX and AA spring to mind.

I guess you are flying in economy [you are given E class - D class would be discount biz]? Other carriers really can drop off the cliff when it comes to earning in discount economy.

Hi RooAvery, and welcome to AFF!

Flights to and from India in -Y or Y with different carriers you're only likely to make a difference of 5 ~ 10 SC's (-Y) because of the distance. Flying J of course will mean more SC's and have a bigger impact on the route selected.

If you are after SC's then avoid ADL-SIN-BOM (QF081-QF051). You'll only earn 25 + 25 SC's compared to flying ADL-SYD-HKG-BLR (QF766-QF127-KA152) for 30 + 35 + 15 depending on fare class..

Maybe it's just me, or possibly because I've been there 5 times in the last 6 months but whatever flight gets you in to India the latest and gets you out the earliest are the best possible flights, and bugger the SC's.....

Thank you JohnK, simongr & Fantic125

useful info from you all, much appreciated, esp Fantic125's comment "whatever flight gets you in to India the latest and gets you out the earliest are the best possible flights, and bugger the SC's...."

I guess I just need to submit my flight request to the in-house travel team and see what they come up. I don't get final choice of flights, esp where cost is concerned, but I can "influence" the final decision. I am flying into DEL rather than BOM or BLR but at the moment I am favouring ADL>PER or BNE as first leg, then onto SIN and DEL (ADL>PER/BNE>SIN>DEL) which I estimate at 70 SCs each way and as Nov 11 is the first month of my QFF year, a good start to retain silver. You would think I could sort this out myself working for a TA?

one final point that has bugged me for a while, is there a page that explains the acronyms in use on AFF? I understand QP now but WP eludes me so far?

Hi RooAvery, this is not what you want to hear.....but....

My suggestion is to forget about (Qantas/Jet Airways/CX) for this trip. At discount economy, the points and Status Credits are not worth the flight times and the arrival time (into Delhi).

The QC lounge in DEL has improved since T3 opened, but it is nothing special. If you want a shower at SIN/KUL, it will only cost you $10 at the Ambassador Hotel/Priority Lounge.

You best bet this time is to fly SQ or MH.

SQ depart ADL 12.40pm arrive DEL 10.10pm (14 Hours 30mins)
MH depart ADL 10.00am Arrive DEL 9.50pm (16 Hours 50mins) This flight may not be daily from ADL.

Both SQ and MH can open jaw back into BNE.

Hopefully by the time you depart, you can credit the SQ flights to Velocity, if not, you'll still be able to credit the MH flights to Velocity; just make sure you book in the correct earning classes.

OneWorld is not great in the Third World (but will be better when KingFisher is on board)
