all AFF members can now use the App to login to AFF. Previously this was restricted to GOLD and SILVER members only.
Is that change due to the Virgin Australia sponsorship?

Yes. For the duration of the sponsorship full use of the App will be available to all.

Virgin Australia are paying AFF a fee to cover the loss of advertising revenue (the App doesn't display Ads) and the loss of subscription income for those who would have upgraded (but didn't) so that they can use the App.

Once the sponsorship period ends, only GOLD and SILVER members will be able to login via the App. This is the same situation as before the sponsorship.
 
The old version has been replaced by the new version. You will need to download the new version, as the old version is no longer active.

Oh well, will have to wait until I'm home. sometime over the weekend then. thx
 
Except......... Now - on the latest posts screen, you can read the topic, go back to the Latest Posts screen, and until you refresh the screen, the topic you just read is still there......that's annoying.

Old version was better.

For me, that's an improvement .. I occasionally hit the back button in the app by mistake, then have no easy way of getting to the thread again.
 
Hmmm. was going to post about this, today for the second time in a couple of months the AFF app got it its knickers in a twist on my iPhone and wouldn't work. I deleted it and re-downloaded. Now I see why...glad it wasn't just me. :)

I didn't think of that and as I was out all day, I had not other way of accessing the site to see you needed to update. A quick MMS of my problem to a moderator got me this info I needed. Thanks Lindsay and Admin.
 
I am unable to read PMs on the iPhone app for some reason so maybe it's time that my old 3GS is replaced with a new 4S.

ps This is not related to the new app and has been going on for a while. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app a few times.

Without knowing your situation specifically, I had a similar issue where I couldn't access app inbox - it came up with a 'pop up' error.

I transferred current messages in my inbox (even though there were only 10-12 posts in there) to a new folder, emptying the inbox.

Messages are now received.

Ah, some I'm not the only one who has had this problem. Now if I can only understand how to implement samiam's fix :o

Gee I don't have any problems getting messages on a 3G, when my messages aren't maxed and even then some still get through. Maybe you should downgrade.
 
This is not an anti Virgin thing but I am not sure as a Gold member I like the virgin branding so as to offer the app free to people who haven't paid for it. It's a bit like the SG getting 25% more bonus miles and WP not getting anything else ;)

Maybe you need to treat it as an enhancement :!:

Remember that the iPhone app was an added extra to what was the normal Silver & Gold package.
 
Its a premium app taster offer :mrgreen:, rather than opening all the benefits of gold to everybody. The app costs money to provide on a per user basis which is why a sponsorship is needed for it to be opened to all for a limited time.
 
Still wish I could swipe and delete threads that I'm not interested to read.
