iPhone app for forum

Is there a reason we have to use the "AFF" Application (which is just a re-branded Tapatalk) and not simply add this forum to Tapatalk? I already have Tapatalk and use it for other forums, and it's annoying having to have one more app that really is a duplicate.

Searching for the forum name "Australian Frequent Flyer" and even just the word "Frequent" or "Flyer" in Taptalk hasn't found anything.

While the AFF app is available to all right now as part of a free trial, there was a time, and it’ll likely go back to this, where the app was only for Silver and Gold subscribers to the site. This was due to the app not displaying ads, which are a revenue source for the site.

Allowing everyone to use the Tapatalk app, regardless of if they’re Silver or Gold subscribers would mean less revenue from ads that keep the site funded.

Last I heard, the iOS 4 software is able to store hundreds of apps, and with folders it’s very easy not to even have to click more than twice to open an app, so I can’t imagine 2-into-1 will make much of a difference.

Additionally, when Tapatalk was first being tested the site could be found, so I can log on through it because it’s been "saved" into the app, but I do know it’s been hidden now. Also, the usefulness of having a separate app is that admin can add or remove the features he wants to better work with the site. While using the generic app means some things might not work and that would reflect poorly on the site (although admittedly there are a few bugs).

Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but the ads don't stay at the bottom of the page for me - as I scroll down they stick over text, preventing you read that part of the post.

Yes, we are aware of this. Apologies - it is a small bug in the current version of the iPhone app. We will get it fixed in the next release.

It only effects those who are not logged in (when using the App). Our GOLD and SILVER members can log in to the iPhone app. Like the browser version of AFF, no ads are displayed to GOLD and SILVER members when using the iPhone App.

Glad you clarified that as I wasn't seeing any ads :-| :p

A suggestion for a future version. As we are now picking up standard app functionality can the AFF app include the ability to swipe a thread on the list to mark that thread only as unread. If I'm doing serious browsing with the app I end up with 20 threads listed that I know I don't want to read, but still another 70 threads not showing that I want to vet. I ready don't want to open every thread that I don't wish to read.

I hope this makes some sense.

any plans to enable 'liking' on the app?

I recall the liking feature was an add-on to the forum, and as the app is developed by Tapatalk, you may need to check or suggest if they're going to support such a feature. I'd certainly want it too, but there are many other issues I'd love corrected first, such as BBCode and correctly displaying the whole post (sometimes the app for me doesn't and I'll need to quote someone to read their full post).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Not sure if I've found a bug or not, but it has me stumped, so I'm asking here. When using the app on my iPad 2 and browsing photos people have posted, there appears to be a stuck pixel on my iPad 2. A white one. Yet on everything else I've opened with a dark background there isn't. So is it the app or is there actually a stuck pixel?

Scratch that, I've figured out it is in fact the app, as when attaching this image I saw not only the stuck pixel in the image, but another one where the old one was. Pretty annoying.

I've noticed this as well. It always seems to happen when the post leaves out [ or ] from the codes. It also used to stuff up if someone used a less than or greater than sign with everything after the < not being displayed. Got to say I haven't noticed either of these recently.

BTW stuck pixel or not that's a great picture. ;)

Just tried turning off BBCode support and suddenly I can see whole posts again. In contrast to BBCode support not actually doing anything, when I was hoping I'd see BOLD text and all sorts. It's broken for me clearly.

So has the app just died for just me or anyone else? Is it likely it died because I haven't got the new version yet.

The old version has been replaced by the new version. You will need to download the new version, as the old version is no longer active.

Wow, Virgin Australia are sponsoring it!

Does this mean there’ll be an ad somewhere?

There is no advertisement (other than their 'sponsored by' message on the Splash Screen). The App functions the same as the earlier version but has some improvements and bug fixes + all AFF members can now use the App to login to AFF. Previously this was restricted to GOLD and SILVER members only.

Cool, thanks for the clarification, I’m still working out how to wifi sync, so it hasn’t updated for me yet :p
