Hi can anyone tell me where the QF first lounge is in TBIT at LAX? Also I am flying with award seats and was wondering if I can still guest a Y passenger in with me?

At TBIT the 'First' lounge (used loosely as it's nothing compared to the real First lounges in SYD/MEL) is on level 5, directly after the security checkpoint on the right-hand side of the terminal (as you walk in the doors). Take the lift from the gate level up to level 5 - it's marked 'OneWorld Lounges'.

Turn Right after leaving the lift; the First lounge is on the right hand side facing the tarmac.

Get there early if you want any chance of a seat as it gets busy most evenings.

As a First passenger you can guest another traveller on the same flight, regardless whether you're on a paid or award fare.

No problems.

The lounge at LAX is a Qantas run lounge, not a partner lounge, so Qantas' normal access rules apply.

Don't expect too much from this lounge. You'll probably have an issue with your wireless device obtaining an IP address - when you do, the internet will be almost unusable.

You'll also probably have an issue finding a seat in the lounge when you arrive.

First Class lounge it is not.

The J and F oneworld lounges are only a couple of years old ... they are of a contemporary style ans the F&B is reasonable.

However, they are inadequate for the number of PAX using them most evenings.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and the lounge, food & beverages aren't too bad - I would certainly rate both the F & J lounges above any of the AA lounges throughout the US. It does fill up pretty quickly from about 8pm onward as there are usually a few QF flights departing around the same time.

As noted prior, wireless access is an issue. This last visit is the first time out of 7 within the last 18 months where I've experienced total loss of wireless access - usually it's just abysmally slow in both lounges

If departing on QF 12 is it best to get there early and get a seat, or late and have minimal lounge time (but risking delays - traffic, security etc)?

Worse than the AA Admirals Clubs? I've never come across a place where you have to pay for basic food and alcohol....

I've been to both F and J lounges in LAX TBIT and can say the food is a lot better there. Busier, yes but then again I've only been to them in the evenings and AA ACs in the morning/daytime.

QP/SG/WP do not have to pay for drinks in A/C's.

Oh man, I'm QP+PS (QP+NB at the time) and had no idea. The bartender wanted to charge me $3 for a bottle of water at the LAX A/C.
The only time I went to the JFK A/C was at 8am so I thought it might be too early for alcohol.
I also flew on a F classic award from SFO-LAX and was given a drink card at the SFO A/C... I assumed that was due to flying F.. and if you wanted more drinks you'd have to pay. The only free "food" they had at SFO was a selection of nuts/crackers. Everything else was ordered from the bar.

I'd certainly pick the QP (even at HBA) over an A/C any day.

This is done, as you noted, with the provision of one or two 'chits' on entry. If they don't give you any, ask.

When you have used the ones given up, you simply go back and politely ask for more.

Until late last year, this was the only way to get complimentary drinks at the A/C, however sice September (?) the A/C's provide complimentary "basic", or "well" drinks.

The drink chits are still handed out as they provide access to premium beverages, e.g. Anchor Steam over "Bud Light").

Thanks, that's good to know - I will be there in April.
Funny you mention that about the food, the LAX A/C in the mid afternoon only had apples and that nut mix. No crackers or muffins or anything above what you could consider "nibbles"

I haven't been to any of the F/Ls (Flagship lounges I'm guessing?) - sorry forgot to mention that in the last post. Are they any different to the standard A/C? I take it they are similar to our QPs / domestic business lounge system, where the F/L is supposed to be a higher tier lounge...

More like international business class lounges in BNE, SIN and AKL.
