Hey all,

I am thinking about writing to V Australia / Virgin Australia about potential 'sponsorship'.

Because I'm competing in the USA in September for a World Championship for a prominent arcade video game that is popular in Australia and HUGE in America.

I am actually the only person ever to qualify outside the USA and have competed the last two years, 2009 coming last then in 2010 I made it to 4th place and I am a genuine chance of winning it this year.

To cut a long story short I wouldn't be after monetary sponsorship just an 'upgrade' from economy to PE for my flights (because I have a very short turnaround not being able to miss too much work and being that the competition is in Chicago so flying from Adelaide I get hit pretty hard from jetlag), In exchange for me wearing a V Australia / Virgin Australia T-Shirt during the whole event.

The championship usually gets pretty broad news coverage in the USA and even feature in the New York times, especially now that huge Motorcross / TV (nitro circus) / Rally star Travis Pastrana is now a regular competitor.

It could be beneficial for V Australia / Virgin Australia as an interesting thing to tweet about, I could even compile a blog for them etc to help bring value from the 'sponsorship', could be good for them looking to expand the brand into USA.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts of what my chances would be of actually getting a positive response from the company, I have heard they are pretty tight on sponsorship related stuff.

Cheers,

NC

Lol. You are joking right.

Scuse me but i want a pe / j seat but that is only worthy of a discount y fare. Think of what you are asking for.

Damn you iphone and fat fingers. Sent from my iphone and AFF app :))

Major companies receive many requests for support, and normally develop sponsorship guidelines.

Virgin Australia's is here: Sponsorship | Virgin Australia

Of course there are other channels you can try... but often you will be referred back to the policy.

As they say... "there's no harm in asking" (I have no insight into Virgin to offer an informed opinion).

However, good on you for excelling in what you do (no matter how relevant or interesting it may or may not be to others), and improving year upon year.

I would have thought that, if the event has the sort of coverage and interest that you describe, it would be a fairly inexpensive marketing opportunity, win or place.

Good Luck with it.

Not meaning to be rude, but what's the point of asking here? Ask VA, they are the only ones that can actually give you an answer.

IME most organisations would have approved any sponsorship type deals for next month quite some time ago...

I was sponsored for a competition in the US in June this year.. and that process started last October... and was formalised/approved in February.

Just sayin'..... maybe next year is a better bet?

I thought I'd have a better chance of an upgrade as apposed to a straight out y fare from scratch.

And anyway its not a huge amount of difference most Premium Economy 'deal' fares are usually only double the price of Economy fares so its kind of the same thing.
