For now... virgin is working on it rapidly, now this with qantas is making it better for virgin. But we will have to wait and see the figures! Lets not get off topic now ;)

Jack - you posted it, and it is the reason you get slapped down by people in other threads. Stop posting that Virgin always does it better than Qantas. It isn't always the case!

FYI my QF flight left PER 30 mins late due to an abnormal headwind delaying the incoming aircraft, however it was the reverse and we landed on time into MEL. Should the pilots have sped up to try and make up time???

Not ex CBR in June, with CBR-MEL the only route where QF have better performance, CBR-SYD which is the route in question DJ leave QF for dead at 84.6% versus 80.2%. Dont you love stats quoted with references ;). Mind you the reverse SYD-CBR QF kill DJ, if you ignore QFLink which are dismal on all the routes regardless of direction.

I really dont care, and fyi it is called a headwind and a tailwind, so when you flew the aircaft it was in a tailwind so it sped up the aircaft without applying more thrust, it has nothing to do with the fuel cuts, this thing at qantas starts today, not when you travelled.

Well then don't post stupid things like that! and yes it is called headwinds, i know, I hold a pilots licence! (auto correct gone wrong)

also the article (i have the printed copy here) doesn't state it starts today either. rather it has been there for some time

Sorry I didn't go into specific routes, but overall QFLink was better than Virgin.

Realistically, on domestic routes, I doubt there is much opportunity to make up 30 minutes often.

I guess it depends if you are flying a Simulator...

You can always burn another $25,000 worth of Jet A1 and feel the love on a sim, whereas in real life - you know, actually being in charge of an aircraft, KPI's and OTP, the reality is you can't do it - and the extra spend would come under the scrutiny of any company accountant.

None of us here can calculate how the cost models QF, VA, TT or JR work to suffice to say, being half an hour late would dent the EBIT of a single flight less than catching the half hour up...

Wow. A whole conversation is had and I'm still trying to decipher the OP.

Virgin announce "this"? What is this? There is nothing in linked story about virgin. So exactly what is this and how does it relate to the linked story?

Then someone commented on AustBT's facebook post about "this". Is it the same this that virgin announced? Or is it a different this?

Finally, virgin announce some unspecified thing, someone comments on the same thing and then qantas has bad news? What is the relationship? A virgin announcement and a facebook comment are somehow related to qantas now having bad news? Does the bad news have anything to do with "this"? How does "this" make people flying with qantas experience even more delays?

I can't understand any of the OP. It is like a series of random thoughts strung together. Is it just me?

This thread is a split thread that arose from DJ announcing their new CBR service levels.

Perhaps that's because how QFLink sometimes turn their planes around <LOL>. Feb, I was sitting at DBO, waiting to fly to CFS via SYD and the incoming QF plane was late (due to a hold up at WGA). It seemed that loading commenced as soon as the last pax got off. They counted us on, slammed the door shut and roared off.

Don't think I've ever seen an aircraft turned around so quickly. Connections still missed in SYD, but it certainly wasn't due to QF not trying.

Don't think I've ever seen an aircraft turned around so quickly.

It's not that long back in my regional (jetprop) NSW travel that only No.1 engine was shut down for disembarking/loading and we were away in a very, very short period. Baggage was left on the trolley on the tarmac.

Try doing that in a Crash8-400 with its conveyor loading.

I actually think this story is another bit of fluff about nothing.

It is normal policy these days for airlines to strictly monitor, in real time, absolutely everything that occurs from power settings, airspeeds, altitudes, fuel burn and many more things. The only real difference is that they do not publicly state what their policy on what and how each of these things is managed.
