Was looking to Tokyo for a short trip sometime in late Sep or mid October in J

as a *A FF member I'm pretty locked into *A carriers and found that only SE Asia carriers e.g TG/SQ offer flights in reasonable flight time
originally was thinking OZ will be a good choice, but seems no one offer good connection in ICN and makes a horrible connecting time in ICN

Can anyone gave me some suggestions to get better deal or suggestion for flight from SYD to NRT/HND ?

thanks!!

Air China
2.5 hrs on the way there in Beijing and 4.5 hrs on the way back
Around $5k in J late Sep early Oct

just check in CA's website
seems like they offering similar fares with TG which cost around $4500 for a RT
anyone suggest where can find more fares !?

CA and TG fares do look very similar, the difference was in connection times, the cheapest TG fare involved an overnight in Bangkok (though if I were you, I'd do it, Novotel is fabulous)

check aggregator sites

and the like

off the top of my head, out of Sydney your choice of *A carriers would Singapore, Thai, Asiana, Air New Zealand, Air China. I don't think you can use United or Air Canada as the routine would be crazy

out of the above I'd personally go SG as their J as simply the best and connection times are good

if you're looking for a cheapie, then it would be Jet* in Business Max - not a *A carrier and their "business class" is not really business and you have to go via Gold Coast or Cairns but they are cheap

your choice

thanks for it

Garuda's fare seems good but a bit worry about for their service
was originally to fly with OZ to Tokyo but seems all outbound flights require an overnight connection in ICN which makes the outbound journey horrible
trying to eliminate options looks like TG,SQ and CA will be the feasible *A options from SYD to NRT/HND and also boost my status to *G

you don't like overnighting?

I travelled once via ICN (though it was on Korean Air), Sydney to Paris, and the fare included a free stopover in Hyatt Regency near the airport, dinner and brekky included - I loved it!

overnight is fine for me but i still prefer same day transfer
just found that TG is now offering a free stopover for one night in Bangkok with such hotel
Centara Grand Bangkok

The Peninsula Bangkok
InterContinental Bangkok
Four Seaons Bangkok

Siam Kempinski Bangkok

seems to be a good deal cause it offers free limo from the airport to the hotel v.v and a free breakfast
anyone try that before?

Garuda J class has very GOOD service.

The new look cabins are more comfortable that J class on EK.

I would be choosing this option.

Totally no help, but this thread has got me confused. I went to NRT last year and I thought I saw ANA flights from Australia. I can't find any now. Did they stop flying here? Or did I imagine seeing ANA as an option?

Unless a codeshare on someone, it has been a long time since ANA flew to Australia. Prior to AN's collapse they used to take a chunk of seats on AN's 744 service to KIX under codeshare arrangements. Not sure if they even flew to Australia before the AN codeshare.

Reassuring to find out I'm losing my mind. ;)
