Etiquette advice please.

We are travelling international with our friends this saturday 9th July. My husband can guest me into the F/L but our friends have only Q/P membership. I have never been in the first lounge and was really looking forward to it but we are arriving at the airport together. Would it be extremely rude of me to go into the F/L for a while before joining them in the Q/P?

I don't think so, at least you are not putting them in a position where they may feel guilty for limiting you to the QP!

He would need to guest 3. Myself and our 2 friends. I doubt they would let an extra 2 in. Maybe we could all need the physio

International lounges only allow one guest per WP, regardless of it being a J or F lounge. There have been reports here that the rule is strictly enforced unless its a child/family member.

Personally I would ask the F/L if you can guest extra pax in, it doesn't hurt to ask the question. You never know... you might be able to convince the doorman to let you up to then ask the agents upstairs.

What can happen, they say no? Give it a shot.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained - may as well give it a shot! after all, you have nothing to lose and all the world to gasin by a smile and a plea - and the look of wonderment on your friends faces if you pull it off!

I'm one of those people that aren't afraid to ask for anything as I'm (generally) always prepared for a no.

Imagine walking up the stairs and there's a gleaming agent there who greets you and your party with a big smile and you ask ever so nicely if 2 extra guests can accompany you in to the lounge, and she says yes?

Worth asking a simple question, no?

Well, I didn't say that I would take them with me when trying - send up the hubby to do his best smile - then he can come and say 'come up higher, friends'!

Depends if you want to be seen in front of your friends as someone who pushes boundaries or rules for personal gain, after all favours in one part of the world are frowned on in others as illegalities, hence the concept/practice of ethics in the first place.

I don't think it depends on anything. You ask the question nicely with respect and see what happens. Obviously if you are declined and you can't take it in your stride, then don't bother asking.

BTW this discussion is regarding the SYD T1 FL, not a lounge in a far away port in another country so I'm unsure of how this discussion relates to anything unethical.

Yes, it is rude to arrive together and then proceed somewhere 'exclusive' your travel friends can't access. :shock:

But if you arrive separately and get in there first, that's a whole different story. :mrgreen:
