I'm somewhat hesitant to post this, but...I managed to snag J savers where normally they're not available. Could be the only upside so far to the website fiasco that's been going on for nearly 3 weeks now. PM me if you want more details.
 
My experience is that SIN nearly always offer "Savers" on their older Aircraft. BNE to SIN on A330-300 seems to have plenty of availability
as does the 200's ex Sydney. Havn't been able to find a saver on the 777-300 ER ex SIN.

And of course never never never on the A380. !!!

SQ's A330-300s are only 2 years old, tops. Some much newer than that.
SIN-SYD is serviced by 2 versions of 772 - 1 is old with old regional J, the other refurbished with new Y and new Regional J.

Savers are always available/permitted on these aircraft.
 
I stand corrected - but I am Old and Tired.

I did mean the 200 out of Sydney.

In the past we always went out of Sydney in the 747. As we travel
on points since the change from the 747 we have tried the A380
in J and have now decided we may as well go J from BRIS and then
F from SIN. Not having been in a suite on SIN I am one of the few
who is not all that impressed with the A380. Don't know why - perhaps
its just too big.
 
J refers to the class on the aircraft.

Y = Economy
J = Business
F = First

There are three categories for points tickets :

Saver
Standard
Full

A Business class ticket Brisbane to Singapore return may be available as ::

Saver - for 90,000 points
Standard - for 180,000 points
Full - 426,000 points

Same aircraft, same flight, different ticket restrictions.

There are other ticket codes for all classes and a quick look on the web for "airline ticket codes"
may interest you.

It can become complex but tickets on points are related to "yield" to the airline.

Singapore appear to have more availability of tickets on points (known as redemption tickets )than most.

You may be tired and old but your faculties seem sharp, still. Hehehe.

I would note that from time to time "glitches" have opened and I have booked J Savers on the 77W and A380.
Also F Saver on the 77W.


Once booked on older planes equipment upgrades has also resulted in flights on both the 77W and A380 on a number of my flights.
 
I understand that the 747 SQ26 and SQ25 Singapore - Frankfurt - New York should become an A380 in October 2011. Another route gone for Jsavers.

I am looking at travel to Europe in October and was thinking it might be worth having an F Saver award booking on that route in the hope that they change the aircraft to cover my travel dates.
I did some dummy F Saver searches on sq.com and they still show &$& and J savers available up to June next year. That probably isn't a good indicator but it is an opportunity to keep an F saver on standby.
 
I think that is a great strategy.When QF a380 was off I took up about 10 F tickets as all the frequent flyers seemed a little paralyzed and left the door open for me.Never knock back an opportunity and remember no one rings a bell for you to tell you a bargain is going begging.Take the Ferragamo personal kit,the PJs and the fine champagne any time.
 
Last year we booked to Paris in First ans the aircraft was later changed to the A380. Great news I thought - We will have a suite !
Bad News - SIA downgraded us to Business. A call to Singapore call centre could not change this so I rang Singapore in Brisbane
and spoke to a most understanding Singapore Girl who fixed all - back to the Suites. Flew out of Brisbane J looking forward to the suite
to Paris - Bad News along came a Volcano ash cloud - no flights ! End result 2 days in Singapore (Where SIA looked after us very well)
then changed flight and went to the US instead. Good trip in a 777 but no Paris ! and no A380.

We have two J Savers booked, one to Milan in a couple of weeks and the US in January and although I know it is unlikely there will be
a metal change I live in hope ! Please don't destroy my dreams.

Sorry Mistake - not savers. (Unfortunately)

The aviation fan website that listed this a rumored A380 route has removed this future route as a A380 service.
