Would you/Do you search/buy airfares on a mobile device

I'm interested in hearing from the community if you/ would you search and/or purchase tickets from a mobile device for your travel?

I prefer to do a little research on a laptop or desktop as I find mobile device too limiting for my needs.

I try to avoid entering CC details into my mobile devices as a general rule if I am on public wifi. If on own network, not a problem.

I do a bit of research using the Kayak app on my blackberry. I've purchased flights through airline websites on my ipad. Doing these sort of things on open wifi networks is something I try to avoid for security, but I'd rather take the chance on a device I own as opposed to using a computer where all sorts of key capture and other nasty software could be installed.

I guess I wouldn't have a problem purchasing from a tablet of some description in that the browser is not far off a a desktop version.

Then I guess the question is if a site used some type of security encryption or certificate would you use it on an open wireless source ?

I was under the impression the packets were intercepted over open wifi and the data stolen that way. So it wouldnt matter if the websites connection was encrypted. My knowledge on the whole subject is rather limited so I could be missing something.

With a secure certificate there is a negation between the server and your browser as to how the request is handled. Each party hands off 'code' like a key - which is encrypted at each end. Even if someone did take a copy in the way you suggested then the amount of time and effort required to decrypt wouldn't make it worth anyones time - as it would be just easier to steal your wallet .

I don't like doing it. The experience and usability isn't there.

However, I have done it. Eg, booking through the QF site isn't too bad. Ditto for searching.

It's something I reserve for situations where I need to "book it now".

I said yes to searching and purchasing.......but I have to qualify that. Less likely to purchase using my iPhone or Blackberry, and more likely with my Playbook or iPad.

On something like an ipad I probably would, if it was secure. On a phone I wouldn't, but then I'm one of those people who really only my blackberry for making phone calls and occasionally reading emails.

Have researched schedules for myself and others online, never purchased flights I don't think. I have used the PC app to purchase hotel stays though and found that easy enough.

More seriously though, I don't think I could ever purchase a fare on a mobile device as I get the impression I'd be more likely to make a mistake/not see all the details I need. A tablet, perhaps though.

What a good PR move to encourage people to book via their mobile phone.

I've never booked a flight via my mobile phone, but if heading home early I'll sometimes change my flight/checkin on my iPhone.

It works either way for me. If I have access to a larger screen and a proper keyboard, then that makes things a bit easier for me so that would be my preferred access method. If that is not available, I then use mobile devices. Failing that, it would be a call to the airline/travel agent. Although, for complex itineraries, the phone trumps everything else.

And, in the mean time, it's always good to have a bag of MM's in hand.

Yet I've done it (relatively) easily on my Android. Hmm. Perhaps it's the larger screen that helps

A mate used to work for MS - he reckons that he'd never enter a password/CC details on a phone as it was too easy to steal the details.

Coincidentally the travel industry newsletter TravelMole today published the results of a survey conducted in the UK which showed that almost a quarter of those planning and booking a holiday will use a mobile device to do so.

I only use an iPhone is to check arrivals when collecting people, and prefer to use a computer so I can print out flight details/confirmations, and avoid any problems later.

I use my iPhone to search, etc only if I don't have my iPad handy.

The amount of screen real estate make a large difference to usability imho
