"This seat, lifejacket. This seat, lifejacket. This seat, lifejacket. This seat, lifejacket soon".

(for the uninitiated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Idd32nyf1pc ).

Seriously though, I don't mind. I only ever fly JQ when on JQ35 (apart from one time when I flew out of AVV when I was there for the airshow) and would love for them to introduce self service check-in for that flight. After all, it means more time in the F lounge :D

Why not? All you need is a passport reader. Passport checks are done by humans at both immigration and the gate, is a check at checkin necessary?
They are different sorts of checks, aren't they? At check-in, they are are considering entry requirements for where you are going. At immigration, they are considering exit requirements for where you are leaving. And, at the gate, they are ensuring only that the BP & person matches the photo & name?

Anyway, I think that Jetstar needs to make it clear if QP check-in will be effected by this move?

Ch9 just had a story about this on the 6pm news, I thought it was a good story, talking about how airlines are becomming more competitive. Simon Westway was on explaining that the elderly would not have to pay this fee. (Yes, I guess hes still at jetstar...)

Until the last line,

"Experts expect Qantas to soon start charging for human checkin."

Grrrrr, these sort of suggestive hints about Qantas, that the general public don't fully understand. Annoy me.

Aren't they a little behind in the news? With NGCI hasn't QF essentially removed the ability to use "human checkin" from all but SG/WP/CLs?

Shows a complete lack of understanding or research ... and then also shows that their "experts" aren't really experts at all!

Yes but some of the processing can be built into an automated process upon reading passport - and managing exceptions by humans. For example Australians travelling on Jetstar to Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Fiji who do not need visas for entry (or can buy on entry). I think Changi now allows this (even to the point that OLCI on SQ to certain destinations no longer needs presenting at checkin desks for stamps).

And here was me thinking that humas was some sort of middle eastern dish. What do I know?

JB

Damn you iPad and your autocorrect. How can it think I want to use the word humas, not humans...

Don't you hate it when a sentence dosen't finish like you octopus.

Also SLC/SLF (Cargo/Freight) :p

Wasn't one of the old russian jets had a loading bay to the baggage hold on the main cabin so you would carry your luggage onboard then hand it down to a staff in the baggage hold?

Soon they will charge me for watching the saftey demo.

I have never experienced having my photo ID checked at the gate. Simply present the BP and on you go.
