Hi All,

I had a chance to try this new multi-city booking system QF have done, for an upcomming fly to ZRH... BNE-SYD-SIN-LHR-ZRH return. For the BNE-SYD sector I have been placed on the 747 doing BNE-SYD comming in from DFW..

If I'm correct, this means that I could, 'leave the country' in BNE, and not even have to worry about transfer desks or leaving immigration in SYD? (Ie more time in the F Lounge?)

I've never heard of anything like this before, does anyone else know what would happen? I wouldn't think it is a common event.

What does everybody think will happen?

Thanks,

LR.

This is what I am doing next week. QF8 BNE-SYD connecting to another QF international flight.

Its an early departure from BNE (6:30am).

You will clear outbound immigration in Brisbane and at that point you have "left the country". Upon arrival in SYD (at the International terminal) you follow the signs for international connections. That leads to a security screening point after which you go up the escalator and you are in the departures area.

Note that you should not purchase any duty free liquids (>100ml) in Brisbane as you will be screened for liquids etc upon arrival into SYD and have to leave them at the check-point.

Sounds good to me Liam.

A while back when QF metal went overseas to/from DRW if you were flying DRW/SYD on QF82 (via ADL) then QF49 to AKL you were cleared out of the country in DRW.

One family got to checkin at the eleventh hour with the "I thought it was just a domestic flight" comment so they were checked in & sent upstairs for boarding however they then stuffed around for ages in immigration completing 5 of the green outbound passenger cards.

I think the plane copped a delay & skipper not a happy camper.

If you do this you will of course need to remain airside in SYD as you have left the country.

Basically if you are travelling on a domestic leg of an intl flight number QF1-QF399 & connecting to another QF1-QF399 flight number overseas, you will clear customs at the place of origin.

It certainly works well for WP's wanting to maximise their Flounging! :p

Indeed ;)

Have been there and done that. A very nice trick to keep in mind... although not always appropriate for short transfers in SYD due to possible delays with the incoming Intl flight.

I think you even save a few $ as the fees and charges are calculated differently!

Yep, no Sydney charges for transits INT-INT :D

Thanks for the feedback guys, I thought that would be the case, but a part of me was expecting some crazy rule to come into effect.

According to that booking I'd have about 7hrs of time for FLounging, for someone that dosen't drink that is a very long time. If I end up booking it, I'll have to turn the business centre into an office for a part of the day.

On another note, does anybody notice, on my 737 flights, its showing that my Business Class fare is able to upgrade with points? RedRoo is there a secret F product comming to domestic that we don't know about yet? :D Imagine the SC's!!

(I am joking of course.)

F Lounge as an office for part of the day? Blasphemy! (hearing others rolling in their graves at the thought)

Massage in the spa, meal in the restaurant, a few hours catching up on some TV shows, enjoying the scenery, a good book in the library, followed by another meal then off to the boarding gate. That's what you should do with 7hrs in the F ;)

And don't forget on QF8 if booked in Business class, try snagging an F seat, as this flight seems to be operated by a 4 Class aircraft. I came across this myself for a flight in early August, and was able to snagg 5K.
