Channel Nine News this morning is reporting a large Police presence at AVV due to some kind of security breach. The main road into the airport is still open but it doesn't appear any flights are landing or taking off at the moment.

I hope it's only something minor, like a 92 year old gent with a butter knife in his hand luggage.

Anonymous threat against AVV and MEL.

Police are assessing the threat.

3AW are reporting that the threat at Avalon is "non genuine".

I notice that the above link has a photo of a Qantas tail sticking out of a hangar - only trouble is that it's VH-EBU "Nalangi Dreaming" that departed our shores some time ago.

Gotta love file footage & the pics they save for a rainy day. They probably wanted the public to think QF was involved some way in the threat.

Are you sure about that? How did it "depart our shores"? As recycled soft drink cans? After being scavenged for parts for the other 747-300s, she was never going to be airworthy again and certainly did not depart under her own "steam" as the others did.

Not sure how long ago GoogleMaps acquired this photo.

Maybe I should've said "no longer in service". Are you saying that she's still at AVV? If she is that means the media have actually used a photo on the day of the event they're reporting, surely no?

On the PPRuNe thread about the Avalon Airshow 2011 there is a photo of Nalanji Dreaming still sitting at Avalon forlornly awaiting her fate.

It's VH-EBU - Nalanji Dreaming Photos: Boeing 747-338 Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net

Been in Avalon since 2005 - and in about the condition you photographed it since about 2007. God knows what the plan and story was - I believe it went down there for maintainance in 2005 - pulled it apart with the intention of returning to service - GFC hit - some of the other 300s were also bought down and parked, things picked up the other 300s were put back into service and they didn't end up spending the money to get EBU going again and it's sat there ever since.

Wunala the other was initially on VH-OJB - then it got taken off and put onto the new 400ER - VH-OEJ

Edited to add: A further post on the PPRuNe thread has this :
EBU is now used as an AFP hijacking/hostage situation trainer...

I believe its still there, but after all useful parts were removed its now used for various training purposes. I guess it may eventually be broken up for scrap.
