Hi there,

I'm based in australia but currently travelling to South Africa and Asia. Which Star Alliance FF program is the best. I do have Thai Royal Orchid membership? but now that I'm flying to SA SIN has better flight timings.

Any suggestions with the FF program to go with? I want to get maximum status credit.

Welcome to AFF.

I have heard good reports for BMI; I'm sure the *A experts will be along shortly to enlighten you.

Might require a bit more info my friend:
1. Which city are you based in?
2. Frequency of travel?
3. Destinations?
4. Class of travel?

Thanks for your response Cruiser...please see below some more info..

1. Which city are you based in? - I'm based in Melbourne and I'll be travelling to Joburg. And Joburg to Europe and Asia for short breaks.
2. Frequency of travel? - I'll be travelling out of Joburg to Australia/Europe atleast 6 times this year.
3. Destinations? - Melbourne/Europe/US
4. Class of travel? - Economy

Might need a couple more bits of info to really get help:

1) What sort of economy - deeply discounted cheapest fares (may not earn miles on many airlines), or flexible economy

2) What is your prime goal - getting silver/gold status quickly? getting good redemption opportunities? etc...

I mostly go with Flexible economy fare as i'm flying for work and I often change the dates around.
My prime goal getting to silver/gold status quickly...Thanks..

In that case, have a look at the A3 (Aegean) program.

As long as your SQ flights book into YBEMHWUL or K, you currently get 100% of miles flown according to the A3 earning table.

So, a return JNB-SIN-MEL will earn you 18,249, plus the current promotion of 1,000 status miles when you sign up to A3 will get you 19,249, which easily gets you *silver, and leaves you only 751 short of *gold.

Is Aegean the Star Alliance program that requires the least miles to get to gold status then?

For a 12 month qualifying period, yes. The requirement is for 20,000 status miles in a rolling 12 month period for *G, which is then valid for 3 years (the 3 year validity is not documented anywhere, but all reports on flyertalk.com are that people are getting 3 years validity).

I just dropped 21,000 miles into A3 for that very reason - in case my travel patterns change substantially, and I am not able to maintain *G on my primary star alliance program (Thai Airways).
