Hi my mum who is 75 is leaving on saturday for europe and israel. I would like to tell her the things that she should expect in transit as she is stopping in singapore for 7 hours, then munich for 5 hours before getting to israel.

after israel she is going to europe for a river cruise andthen a bus tour trhough scandanavia.

so could you guys give me iideas of what to tell her?

ie gointhat in transit she will need to go through security , stop off at the day hotel in singapore transit lounge. pick up boarding pass etc. ask for wheelchair assitance etc etc

Hi Samm

Mothers can be very troublesome if left to their own devices outside of our control or at least my mum was. But I have to say she survived every trip and generally had a ball, got help where she needed and was very well looked after by all those nice boys (probably 40+).

Suggest that you look at the Changi and Munich websites etc
Home - Changi Airport and the transit hotel Ambassador Transit Hotel
Terminal maps can be good if they can read them. I don't know Munich its been a while but this is their site Munich Airport - Passengers and Visitors

If she is on
Qantas, Singapore etc then she should be able pre arrange assistance for her all the way through. Talk to the airlines and your travel agent, don't leave it to one of them. Pre arrange special meals if needed. Let he know how long the flights are and suggest sleep pattens. Make sure she has a mobile phone number for those meeting her at the end, she dosent need a phone but if in difficulties she can get someone to call. On the plane she will need a pen and address of people staying with for the arrivals card

Transits, the SIN transit hotel is great and do wake up call etc. Make sure she is going through security back to gate at least 60 minutes before departure but not more than 120 minutes as this is too long to wait.

They usually call for assistance travellers first so she should use this to get into her seat and comfortable before the crowds get on. Print off the movies for the flights or at least take her through the IFE demo's that are on some airline websites, make sure she has some books if she is a reader.
Most of all ASK for assistance, cabin call button is overhead (yellow orange), she is not bothering anyone that is why they are there, they love little old ladies (not suggesting anything) it reminds them of their mums. She might meet some nice boys and girls:!:
I'm sure she will have a great trip and holiday

Thanks for the info
My mum, is a little scared and exceited, and i am just slightly worried for her.

i was telling her she should go to the transit lounge (in singapore) where they give you a 3 hour nap and two hour lounge. In Munich she has a 5 hour wait. She does have on the ticket wheel chair assistance or the words elderly passenger, can't walk far. can she get her boarding ticket earlier?

i was even concerned that she would miss her flight when she is in transit becuase she falls asleep easily.

thanks for the advice regarding IFE. i did not know that ithere was demo i could show her. looks like i will be showing her tomorrow
