New cringeworthy QF John Travolta safety video

on my two flights yesterday the CSM referred to the crew as "team"

Same as all my recent flights (past two weeks that I've started noticing).

Don't you love "the guys on the flight deck and the greater team"?
So the trolley dollies are greater than the flight deck guys?

(apologies for tongue in cheek use of expression "trolley dollies")

I thought about this at the airport before my flights last week on QF, so I thought since I was sitting near the back of the bus, I'd watch peoples heads when the video started.

What do you know!

The video started with the usual QF intro and not a head was raised from their magazines...but as soon as JT comes on with his accent, everyone raised their heads and started watching, and almost all kept watching until the end. This was the same for both flights.

QF have done a good job, I think!

PS The CSM and Pilot both referred to their crew as a "team" :p

Does anyone else think the "pilot" at the end looks and sounds a bit like one of the MKR judges?

Do you mean that portly gent who wears the scarf or cravat? I don't actually watch the show as I can't stand any of those shows with judges on an egotistical power trip.

The male passenger reminds me of that doctor bloke on the 7pm Project and whatever other shows he's on.
The missus has the strangest look on her face when she has that lifejacket on!
I wonder how old Little Jimmy with the O2 mask is now.

The other thing that bugs me is the pronunciation of 'forehead'. I was brought up with it pronounced "for-ed" but they say "four head". I guess it's so the Americans understand.
Will probably find this pronunciation is as divisive as 'often' and 'aitch'.

Totally OT - but you have chosen to list the three words that rile me up more than any other (though I have inconsistent pronunciation)... also continually arguing with my friend who says "a hospital" and "a hotel"... I know it appears to be the normal way now, but I personally don't like it.

For the record:

For-red
Offen (cringe away)
Aitch

also: privacy, not prai-vacy, orc-shun, not Ock-shun and ske-duel, not she-dule (I never went to Shool) :) lol

...told you I was inconsistent... but at least I am consistently so!

Maybe we could include this in the other thread and also ban people from lounges based on their pronunciation; Cultured and General Aussie accents allowed, broad accents upon management discretion

;)

A friend of mine just pointed this out to me - but has anyone notices they've flipped the footage behind Travolta making the Aussie flag the wrong way around?

Look at the mid right of this screen grab from the video... can you see it.

Sorry Qantas, this is a cause for national shame!

If you look at the otter side of the aircraft, it is the right way around. It's just like looking at it from the back. Apparently, the right hand side of the aircraft is the back. With the left being the front.

Something learnt at LRE...

Well, no, not really. And you don't need to look at the video, look at the starboard side of any QF jet.

The idea is simple. Flag pole on the aircraft, the wind blows it back towards the tail. And if you look at both sides of the aircraft, you're simply seeing both sides of the flag.

Was this "friend of mine" on Twitter by any chance?

The pronounciation of H is always a tricky one... Traditionally it has always been "aitch" but now "haitch" is becoming more common, particularly with the younger generation.

Roly Sussex (Professor of applied language studies) from UQ said on ABC radio that it is correct to use aitch but haitch is now accepted through common usage. So, now you can use either one!

And who would trust a Professor from UQ?

Are you suggesting a per se without any other qualification that such a person completely lacks integrity (whether that be the profession and/or the institute) and should not be trusted?

In any case, BIG DEAL!

I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard it. The overhead monitors weren't working.
