Does anyone use OLCI?

I guess this is true for most airlines not just SQ although it is probably more noticeable to me as I do not have any status with SQ.

Well Coachtrans turned up 15 minutes early and I ended up at BNE international airport 15 minutes earlier.

Had already used OLCI for SQ flight and waited no more than a couple of minutes as I was the only one in the internet check-in queue. Why don't more people use OLCI as there was around 30+ people lined up in the normal economy queue? This is at T-3h 15m.

Anyway dropped off golf clubs at oversize baggage, filled out departure card, went through security (yes security is before immigration) and I was the only person in the immigration queue and I am in the Qantas Lounge less than 30 minutes later.

Normally when departing my home port of SYD I don't use OLCI as I quite like to head up to the First Check In and have a chat with the agent, I'll always chit chat about the loads on board and politely ask if there is a possibility of an upgrade. Occasionally I have been successful (although not that often) so I believe it's worth it!

Next week though with an 0600 departure I'll certainly OLCI the day before as it's a quick trip across the ditch - once I get there I'll try my luck with an upgrade over to LAX

That is fine for Qantas. How about if you did not have status on say an airline such as SQ? Would you still not use OLCI and stand in the economy queue with everyone else?

I have to admit I'm super loyal to QF and pretty much exclusivly fly them (or other OW carriers).

This is basically due to the fact that my employer has this travel policy so all is good.

If I had to fly SQ (or any other OW airline) I would use OLCI for sure as I would not expect to have a chance at an upgrade.

Yes, especially in the US for domestic travel. And then you have crazies thinking you are cutting in when they could have done the same at home. For airlines which I am not a frequent flyer I always use it if possible.

For QF, rarely.

As a Platinum I use OLCI for QF all the time as that gives me another option to determine which queue will have the shortest wait time.

I use OLCI when travelling with SQ Y. For some reason because many people aren't travelling that often internationally they have to be there 2-3 hours before anyway.

When travelling SQ J or F there is limited benefit to OLCI as your seat is already allocated and you need to drop the bags anyway.

I don't travel with checked baggage domestically very often but the benefit of domestic OLCI has evaporated as more people have moved to that method.

Cause and effect perhaps? I am guessing those that do OLCI are much more likely to turn up closer to departure. I would expect that OLCI pax would be much more common at about T-90mins. Having turned up at the check in counters at T-60mins I've seen OLCI lines with five or six pax and normal checkin lines with 1 or 2 at that late stage.

Not on SQ, but on EK (no status at the time) & QF (WP) I've actually been (op)upgraded during the OLCI process. Great feeling when you look at go to your seat allocation and it's 9D not 53K!

I used OLCI yesterday afternoon for my flights today;

SQ 278 ADL-SIN,
SQ 966, SIN-CKG.

Both in Y, and both flights pretty full. Not many decent seats available.

You didn't pre-select your seats before OLCI?

I pre-select seats at time of booking and I can get an aisle seat 3-4 rows back all the time. No status on SQ!

Reminds me to pay for exit rows on upcoming BKK-SIN-BNE flights in April.
