What is the best way to get to AVV if I were to go down and can't rent a car?

The chances of being unable to rent a car in Melbourne would be pretty slim...

In saying that you could:

Option 1
1. Skybus to Southern Cross station
2. V-Line to Geelong (Lara Stop)
3. Take bus from Lara to AVV

Option 2
1. Skybus to Southern Cross station
2. Metro to Werribee
3. Air-show bus to AVV (I'm assuming they will run again this year)

Option 3
1. Skybus to Southern Cross station
2. Stop at liquor store and buy bottle of Bacardi
3. Metro to Werribee
4. Join Drewbles & munitalP and drive out
5. Partake in Majito sampling at the end of the day

Option 4
1. Fly direct into AVV on JQ or Tiger

Option 5
Gulls Geelong Bus service to Werribee, get off at Synnot St Stop
Walk 100m to RSL
Play the pokies or have an ale and wait for the Sita Avalon Airport Bus (needs to be prebooked)

Option 5 would be available any day, however I would grab a hire car, and not there are specials for one way ex AVV to MEL.

Had to modify option 3 slightly. Far superior to Bacardi ;)

I will have space to fit 3 pax comfortably, 4 if you want to be squeezy. I live in the CBD around 1km from Southern Cross station, so it's an easy meander up to my place (Where possibly pre-function Mojitos may be in full swing; not for the chauffeur alas).

Ok so it seems I will be working a stand Wednesday and Thursday (come say hi :)) and should have friday and saturday to myself.

What's the plan for BBQs/dinner/mojitos?

So what stand will you be on when we rock up and say hello? I'll be there on Thursday and Friday.

A very good question. As noted above I'll be in MEL on Thursday and Friday nights returning home on Saturday. Would love to catch up with AFFers whilst there.

No idea. This was probably 6-8 years ago on one of the public days. Last time I went only on the industry days (as i'll probably end up doing for this one too). Prefer to get a gawk at the birds without the masses around (especially if it's a hot day, which most of the air shows are; damn weather).

Our weather here at the moment is quite temperate........hopefully it will stay that way.

Is there adequate parking there?

From the FAQs

Will I be delayed with traffic congestion into the Airshow site?
No

This seems like a bold claim. Any idea what the delay will be like on Friday afternoon driving in?

Cheers skip

Trade days are not too bad traffic wise, VIC roads usually paints a new lane in the breakdown lane to speed the process, however, public days, the traffic will be lined up for kilometers remembering that its a few km from the freeway exit as well. Allow plenty of time to get there, and also, if you arrive late, you will have a long walk through the paddocks to get to the main entrance. Last show Sunday, my friend and I commented that it would have been faster to drive to Tulla, fly to SYD then back to AVV than what it took us to get there!

Getting out is worse. It took me nearly 2 hours to get out of the paddock on Friday night in 2009!

I have an R1 car park pass which is a separate entrance and right next to the gate! gotta love that! last time we just drove straight past the traffic jam!

As luck will have it I'm in Oz that weekend. I can only attend Fri afternoon and Saturday morning though, flying down and back ex BNE at lunchtime.

Sounds like the go would be to take some good music to listen to for the Friday night traffic jam (or leave a bit early) and get there really really really early on Saturday morning.

I did wonder about the shuttle from Lara, which appears to drop me near the main gate; does that avoid the queues?

I believe it does. The entrance I get to use is past the General admission entrance a km or so back. IIRC it's the same entrance you use for the JQ terminal.
