Upgrade Promotion on E/N/O/Q fares

So should I do 767-300 over 737-800?

I'd go for the flight to BNE because it's a breakfast service (based on other info here) and I assume it'll be slightly long than the other 2 flights.

I was going to pass on the promotion, but then I caved in. I've only flown domestic business (well, F according to them) on AA, so went for the SYD-CNS trip I had booked for next year. It will be interesting to compare the two airlines.

I wasn't too keen on using the 16,000 points since I've been saving up for a return business flight to the USA, but at least now I'll have tried Qantas business class plus I've been curious to compare the domestic business lounges with the qantas club ones (I hope the upgraded ticket has the same lounge access as an original business class one).

I considered it a bit wasteful in light of the CBR-SYD-Hobart JASA SC opportunities, but I shouldn't need one unless I decide to go for platinum (or a holiday there in the warmer months) and I've been losing the temptation to do that with all the changes going on (since it is all self funded for me).

I was keen to upgrade my SYD-AKL trip in December, but it told me there were no eligible seats left to upgrade to, so instead it'll be a nice perk for my trip to Cairns.

I never received the email but have upgrade on two flights - one was showing U1, the other I picked as showing U4 before booking. Now they show U0 and U3 respectively.
What's does this
mean specifically?
Domestic upgrades book into U class - which is also award Business class.

U4 means that Qantas "Yield management" have made an allocation of 4 seats for Award bookings and/or, if domestic, upgrades.

So in the case of U1 showing for a Domestic flight (Say on Expert Flyer or KVS) and I have an economy booking in an upgradeable class on the same flight and request an upgrade, it will be confirmed immediately and the U counter decreased by 1.

So U1 -> U0.

I would take business class on a 767 over a 737 any day. It is a much better experience.

Not that I would use points for a domestic upgrade anyway....

+1 JohnK

Although I would take an A330 over a 767 as long as it is not the one with PE Seats;)

lowly NB didn't receive the email but I can try for the upgrade...not going to waste my points, as tempting as it is for a Trans tasman sector

Thanks everyone. I sucessfully upgraded one of the return legs of the flights I listed (which is at 7pm so gets dinner service) on a 767-300. It's not until March, but Mrs DeKa and I will enjoy it I'm sure. My WW Everyday Rewards points will pay - so pretty good value upgrade of a $101 red e-deal to business class (total $202+$89 WW EDR annual fee so the flight costs $291 for 2 business class seats).

If you don't care about seeing out the window, grab one of the seats in the middle block ; that way you're in the aisle and no chance of a passenger climbing over you to go to the toilet as you both have aisle access.

It's 2-2-2 and there are two of us, so I selected 4A and 4B (window and aisle). That should be OK yes?

I got the offer as well.

I am not going to waste valuable QFF points on upgrades for domestic flights. All my QF international flights are in V class and even then I am hesitant to request an upgrade MEL-SIN on the A380 for 40,000 QFF points or PER-SIN for 24,000 QFF points.

I think it is best to stay in economy for now and use QFF points for a Oneworld award later....

+1
Got the offer for a SYD-BNE trip next month on the 20th, Red eDeal.

I won't be wasting 8k points for around 90 minutes travel. Got enough for a Oneworld award now, starting to save for J bucket award (280k, bit far off, but l can dream...lol).

I now also understand why people want to get confirmed updates at time of booked, because l read in the fine print, "Note, as upgrade requests can be popular, your request may not always be successful".

I'd go for J/K pairing if available just in case it get subbed with an international configuration 763 (with no 'B' seats in business class).

Ididnt get the offer and I am flying on the 10yh to BNE.

Is it selective?

I have six QF flights over the holiday season; the offer was only for one sector, so far.

My thoughts were the same as most AFFers; don't waste the points when an opup is likely?

I have managed to save more than enough QFF points for a business class Oneworld award. May treat myself to a nice present for my 50th....

I'm guessing so. I am flying mid-late Feb MEL-BNE-MEL and I'm pretty sure someone else reported getting the offer for a flight around the same time, yet I don't have it (not that fussed, but would be nice to at leat have the option).

You don't need the offer to take advantage of this.

I did not receive one but have been able to upgrade two domestic flights.

The offer is not limited to one flight. I have 25 odd bookings out to May 2011 and they are all upgradable (well the 10 or so i've checked) except an X and the internationals that are >90 days away.

I didn't get the offer and have been able to upgrade two international flights, although I'm wondering whether to cancel the one next Sunday on the 747 and take my chances with an op-up!

If EF shows no ugrade seats does that mean my chances of an upgrade are nil or does this promotion counteract that info?
