Hi, first time user.

I just wanted to ask the community whether I am entitled to retain my platinum status by only flying one world airlines?

It looks like I will be able to attain the required status points by year end, but I did read a clause on the QF website that I had to fly at least 4 segments using QF to attain / retain relevant status? Which I will not have done.

Have I interpreted this correctly?
Thank you

Yes you do need to have flown four flights on either QF or JQ.

There have been threads here before about people missing out on thier status until this rule is complied with.

And welcome to AFF. :)

Double-D,

Welcome to AFF.

Unfortunately for you that is correct. Qantas do now apply the 4 segments rule and so without them you will not attain/retain the status.

Thank you for the welcome and advice.

Let me run a scenario by the community. If I am flying QF long haul on 3 different segments (D class) and I reach balance of WP status requirements through other one world airlines, I miss out on retaining wp. But if person x flies return SYD-CNB economy return twice and reach their WP status balance through other one world airlines, they retain WP?

Sounds absurd. Help me make sense of this madness please? :?:

Life is full of absurd rules.

I am required to slow down my car to 40kms per hour at certain times in front of schools when there may be no children in sight.

If based outside Oz and therefore not at this time able to fly QF it would not hurt to write them a polite letter explain you circumstances, outline travel plans for next year and ask if you can be comped. QF certainly do this for some WP's short of SC. They may do it if you are short of sectors.

I should look at the rules, but would flying JQi in an SC earning fare count towards the min. 4 QF flight rule :?:

Yes, you should look at the rules :p:p:

20.1.5 The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum status level must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier.

There are some oddities... Is it possible to split your three segments into four (e.g. Lhr-sin-SYD rather than lhr-SYD)?

Also they don't check id on domestic flights in oz so whatever ff number is in the booking is deemed to be the person that flew...

To be fair that comparison is not really relevant.

Someone can fly SYD-CBR return twice (and get 4 Qantas segments) and then do some cheap YUP/KUP status runs in the USA to attain/retain Platinum status while other people spend $20,000+ on two SYD-LHR returns in business class and only attain/retain Gold status.

Personally I feel the 4 segment rule is too easy. It should more like 10 or 20 segments to attain/retain Platinum.

Also if given the opportunity we can all justify reasons to be able to retain Platinum status.

Yes.

Not that anyone here would suggest breaking the law.......;)

Points/SC earning travel on Four QF (or JQ) "flight" numbers is what is required.

Ha! I like the way you think. Not a bad option I suppose. Thanks

Point taken. I think the spirit of the frequent flyer program is based on flying QF not other airlines. Although I believe if "segments" are used to determine status then there should be a differentiation between segments depending on distance and class flown. Maybe this becomes too complex for QF to manage?

Sounds a bit like status credits :o
