Next trip on a 388 will be early May. Things will hopefully be resolved before then.

I have a question and I am sure we have someone here with much more knowledge than I have who will clarify what I'm wondering......

It's my understanding the FA's on the A380's are probably only current on A380's. If the A380's are out of action for a few months will Qantas requal them to other planes? I hope that makes sense.

I hope I've put this in the right thread but they would be inconvenienced by this.

And please go easy on me if my thinking is heading in the wrong direction.

I've no idea of the answer, but sounds like a fair question. Be interested to hear any QF staff answers.

Cabin crew work across a range of aircraft, the only real type rating they have is domestic versus international AFAIK.

No, crews don't cross qual to my knowledge. Although they all came from 744 you would think so couldn't be too hard to go back. But unlikely due to the training burden.

I wouldn't be surprised if RR put out a tech notice grounding other Trent 900 A380s. Interesting times.

I think they do cross qualify on 'similar' types. I'm not sure of the definition of similar though.

Does anyone know if all passengers have been put up in hotels in Singapore or have some been given other flights. I am on QF010 SIN-MEL tonight and the flight is full. When I looked a couple of weeks ago there was plenty of availability on this flight.

We are one A380 out of action, it is a popular aircraft with many people Booking specifically.
I am glad that no one has been injured but I had bad feelings about new aircraft types when the A380 was the talking point a few years ago. I did travel on an SQ A380 last December but have not been on a QF A380 yet. Have a flight for Boxing Day so hope all is sorted by then.

I should probably consider myself a little lucky as I was contemplating booking QF32 SIN-SYD for tomorrow.

Interesting how a couple of years ago I met a lovely CSM in economy on a 767 flight CHC-SYD and then in December met her again in business class (lucky op-up) on a 747. She remembered me and the conversation we had on that CHC-SYD flight.

I believe crews from 747 and A380's are on a different employment award. There was some union intervention several years ago when QF wanted 747 crews to operate the A380 with less wages/benefits etc, and they refused to do so, so QF had to train up new staff to do the A380s. So, it is a good question; what happens to the A380 FA's during this stand down period.

I'm sure Mr Joyce hopes they are too.

AJ has announced that QF has grounded their entire A380 fleet. Interesting things are going to be happening now I'm sure. I had a 4 class 744 subbed to a 2 class in 2 weeks for SYD-SFO, so I wonder what will happen with that now..

Could be worse guys you could be put on a UA flight home!

If you want to get home, surely that's a better option than sitting in some bog-standard room at the LAX Hilton until QF decides they will fly you back themselves?

I dare say that some passengers will stay overnight, and others have been rebooked onto flights tonight.
