QF A388's out of action - who is inconvenienced? [Merged Thread]

I was booked to fly on the A380 on QF11 SYD-LAX today (5 Nov).

Got a call last night from the lovely lady at Qantas advising that we had been moved to the earlier (reliable, B747 operated) QF107. Unfortunately Economy was full on that flight so we had to accept the upgrade to Business :)

So, it hasn't inconvenienced us much at all !

Re: QF A380 flight disruption experiences - please post here your altered travel plan

Glad to hear you managed reasonable seats as a silver Flyboy!

I'm on QF93 on 14/11 (A380) and QF94 (744ER) on 30/11 using AA flights from LAX to SFO in Economy. Unfortunately QF73/74 doesn't operate on my days of travel or I would try to get the flights changed. As a lowly QFF bronze flying on a very cheap ticket, I am just hoping that I actually get accommodated on (any) QF flight and not offloaded onto a dreaded UA plane.

I was just comparing the seat configurations of the A380 to the 744ER and noted the difference is almost 150 economy seats. Assuming the A380s don't start flying soon, that is a lot of people to try to locate seats for.

I am booked QF 93 MEL-LAX 17/11, then return QF94 LAX- MEL on 10/12. I am a FF in my dreams- haven't travelled for years- travelling alone, no small kids or husband in tow, picked these dates specifically to go on an A380. Have enjoyed this forum from 'afar' until now!

Welcome to AFF, a week is a long time so don't panic!

Jayber,

Welcome to AFF.

In the next few days there should be a lot more clarity as to what is occurring.

As an update to my situation (currently on QF93 Economy on 14/11), I just rang QF volunteering to change to QF73 on 13/11 to avoid any 380 re-scheduling issues. The CSR checked with their supervisor but advised they were currently only looking at re-booking flights for the next few days and couldn't change my flight without charging the standard change fee.

I thanked them for their help and asked them to please note on my booking that I was willing to travel a day earlier if things aren't back to normal closer to my flight date. As I previously flew last year on VH-OQA, I am presently more concerned with getting there than on what type of plane gets me there. As a side note, they were quite prompt in answering the phone so I say well done in what I am sure must be quite frantic times for the call centre staff.

thanks for the welcome- thought I might be 'scorned' as a wannabe. I love flying used to do it alot years ago (like- 15 years ago!).

Welcome - we'll leave scorning to other boards... We'd rather fly! :D:D:D

We're booked on QF093 today 5/11 - MEL-LAX A380
Was due to depart at 11:10am, phoned the call centre at about 8pm (4/11) and just told to have my phone on and expect a call in the morning. I'm a lowly Bronze member with Sale seats, so we're literally at the bottom of the food chain.

This trip is our ten year anniversary present to ourselves, completely devastated. :(
any advice would be hugely appreciated. We have full travel insurance, but we have so many stops on the trip with hotels/cars - all pre paid.. At least we're not stranded away from home but in some ways would prefer to be stuck overseas than waiting it out here...

Let us know how you get on.

I understand a 24hr delay.

Of course their duty is to their CL WP first and foremost, most prob getting any spare F and J seats out of LAX/LON/SIN.

Cheers

Spruce

I'm not inconvenienced as I have no plans for flying QF for the rest of this year, however if I selected to fly on a 388 but ended up on a 744, I'd be saddened! Having flown the 388 in J twice, and 744 in J a few times there is a big difference. I can only imagine the pain for those travelling in F forced to 'downgrade' to old F!

fatherdoc and motherdoc may be in strife with their 7/11 flight .

They received phone call this afternoon advising to be prepared to be called again tomorrow or Sunday am, as decisions on flights on 7/11 still "up in the air" (my phrasing - pun). I guess partly confirming they were still traveling, but possibly also just called to update them due to status.

Irony is they thought the schedule was a 744, but turns out to be a 380.....

Doc do father and mother doc have any status? If not that is excellent service.

Given that a 744 has just returned to SIN all of their planes may be grounded for awhile. Now that would make life hard.

Hopefully I'll get back from BKK on Sunday night in Jet* :). A Star* seat might be valuable currency this week.

I was booked on QF93 MEL-LAX Friday 5/11.
Call centre had meltdown/long delays on hold on the morning of departure, so I just rolled the dice and went to the airport.
Got to the airport early enough to be transferred to QF107 SYD-LAX same day.
Qantas staff were really good about it, they explained things well and in one case, ushered pax to the appropriate international connections check-in, where they had dedicated desks handling the change.
All handled well under pressure from what I saw there.

Cheers.

Good to hear they are doing well. We don't have that much control over what happens to us, however we are wholly responsible for our response. This is as much a personal as corporate position.
