Hi,

I'm a bronze QFF who will be flying to the US in the near future.

According to the Qantas website, I can select my seat in advance "between 7 days and 3 hours" before my departure.

Question #1: Based on experience, can someone please tell me if advance seat selection online will be available exactly 7 days before the date/time of my first flight? I want to make my selection as early as possible.

Question #2: While selecting my seats for the departure flight, will I also be able to select my seats for the return flight which is a few weeks after the departure? Or will I have to wait the same 7 days to 3 hours before that flight.

Thanks in advance.

If you phone Qantas FF now they should be able to help you with seat selection. I'm flying QF107 to LAX in August and the seats are already booked (by phone). By joining AAdvantage I was also able to book seats (on-line) for onward travel with AA. Mind you the seats can always be changed and there are no seat guarantees.

#1 -- Yes. Exactly 7 days.

#2 -- Yes. You will be able to select seats for the return flight at the same time.

Hi guys,

Interested to know if the T-80 rule applies for International flights.

I am booked on QF5 next week and have been unable to select anything forward of the bulkhead on row 34 (despite knowing that row 26 has seats which are yet to be allocated). I'm a SG

Pretty keen to nab seats in Row 26 (2 class 744). Will these open up at T-80?

Yes it works at T-80 for international flights also.

Can report that Row 27 is wide open for selection as a SG, however they won't let me touch 26 which is still showing as blocked :(

Seem to be getting from two rows forward of exits on 738/734 now as Gold, vs from two rows behind as Silver. Not a huge difference really.

I know this will sound dumb but when is T-80 is that the time of the flight -80hrs? Im fairly new to this and still dont know the abbreviations.
Yep - it's 3 days and 8 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time.

Which can be bad news when making last minute bookings. I was able to snag 6C (from of Y) on a 734 for Wednesday morning, but even inside 80 hours for my return the most forward aisle seats is row 16! Hoping for improvement as the hours count down.

Booked on Saturday the furthest forward aisle I can get is row 30 on the 763 for travel friday night out of SYD (no prizes for guessing that'll be a full flight!) at T-79.

Got 5D for the outbound leg Friday AM at ~T-72 on the 738 which is better!

And its worth keeping a close eye on things. When my flight tomorrow morning opened for OLCI, my pre-selected 6C was no longer front row of Y. J had shrunk from 5 rows to 4 rows and row 5 was now wide open for Y passengers. So my 6C was quickly changed to 5C. Hoping for a similar change on the return to improve my 16D which is still the most forward Y aisle seat available.

The problem of course is that if cabin redefinition occurs in the other direction you lose your seating allocation and might end up further back than you like.

For this reason I keep a very close eye on 734 flights where I'm booked in Y and have chosen something forward of row 6 :)

I was very surprised to be able to get 6C on a flight rebooked whilst in the cab to the airport on Friday. Even had an empty seat next to me - a lot of other seats around me were full.

Quite often large companies hold flexible booking on flights in peak times where their senior staff may need to travel. If the travel is not confirmed, these bookings are cancelled one or two days before the flight, freeing up these seats.

Had that happen a few weeks ago. I changes my 6C to 5F and then J went to 5 rows and I was placed into 6A by the OLCI system. But agree its always a risk, though a low risk once OLCI has opened.

Has anyone had any experience of T-80 on domestic J flights? Mostly people have been talking Y here.....

From my experience row 1 actually remains blocked until T-24 and T-80 doesn't free up anything at all! The whole J cabin is usually able to be selected (on 763 and A330) except row 1 until T-24 ish.

737 flights, whole J cabin is available from get go.... (I'm a WP)

Anyone got any other experiences to share??

We have used a JASA to/from BNE this weekend and grabbed row 1 at T-80 in both directions.

The answer maybe that it varies with your status.
