The gold frequent flyer card has disappeared from the ANZ and Qantas website and ANZ staff haven't been briefed on the disappearance from their system.

Also, I just got an email from Qantas saying the standard Qantas ANZ card has an earn rate of 1/$4 not 1/$2!

They seem to have got rid of all their gold cards, must be the current record high price of gold :mrgreen:

Gold card becomes an elite status now. They are only available to loyal and good customers of ANZ through invitation?

Maybe this explains why I've received an off to move to Platinum at no change of fee.

Am I just cynical in thinking there might be a fee increase somewhere down the track?

Considering that Platinum is now effectively what the Gold was many years ago with a higher fee, I dont think cynicism is unwarranted.

I hold an ANZ Rewards Gold card here, don't know how they are going to move me up the scale, considering there is no platinum rewards card.

Spoke to some from ANZ today. Apparently ANZ is discontinuing all their gold credit cards.

Also, the ANZ website advises that anyone who holds a gold card will be upgraded to platinum from 23 Oct 2010.
ANZ - Changes to ANZ Gold
ANZ - Changes to ANZ Rewards Gold

So platinum is becoming the new gold, so what's going to be the new platinum? Or is ANZ just rationalising their credit card range?

Interesting that the first link notes that ANZ Car Rental Cover ($2,400 excess cover in Australia, with $350 excess, effectively $2,050 cover) will remain a standard inclusion, however when I click on the new Platinum Insurance Terms and Conditions, it states that the rental vehicle excess in Australia is only $1,250! Very misleading/deceptive! By comparison, Westpac platinum cards provide $5,500 excess cover in Australia.

Also, the overseas rental car excess cover (useless in the US) provides only $2,000 cover, while Westpac provides $5,000 cover.

Having said that, they've retained the requirement for only $250 of flight costs to be charged to card for cover, whereas Westpac require total flight costs to be charged to card.

I haven't had a chance to compare other diffferences yet.

hmm... from the links on the ANZ website I can see the Gold & Rewards Gold changes... but the Frequent Flyer Gold has no mention of changing to Platinum.

Anyone with a FF Gold had an offer to "upgrade"?

I think the end result is that ANZ will raise the annual fee (in the near future) for all those gold card holders who have been upgraded to Platinum level.

Just a matter of time.

Why they removed the Gold cards, I just don't understand. It may be better just to get the basic card for a lower annual fee.

Not yet! Maybe their contract with QFF has a gold card requirement?

The new ANZ Platinum card got an annual fee waiver if you spend more than $20,000p.a. I wonder why this waiver doesn't apply to any of the other ANZ credit cards? Very strange

That's odd ... I have had 3 offers to upgrade from the classic FF to platinum in the last 12 months, with no change to the annual fee. Lower earn rate than the standard platinum though. The last offer was last month and one of the offers, abouut 6 months ago, was a blanket offer to all card holders, printed in the rewards brochure!

Reading the policy boklet, it appears that you still get the $2,050 cover through the rental car insurance. but also $1,250 of cover through the flight inconvenience insurance (only applies if you buy the flights on this card), It is not clear however, how the two policies interact with one another

They have further clairified that they will not pay anything in the event that you are liable for an additional payment to the rental company, due to single vehical accident / water damage (clause 1), therefore the cover may only be useful for companies that don't specifiy this (I believe Avis and Budget ?)

The travel insurance section (2.1 Cancellation costs) shows that they will reimburse the cost of cancelled flights that were booked with points, and should be useful to people here.
