125 SCs to 2100 - to get them or not?

So my SCs are due to expire end Nov 2010 and after a early Nov trip across the Tasman (and return) netting 100 SCs (20 + 80) I'll have 125 to go to reach 2100 and get partner/friend gold. With the new QFF rules coming into effect to get to the same level thereafter would require 2400 SCs - an unlikely event to happen at this stage.

Question I'm currently tossing is whether to do a mini-SC run to get over the line and then nominate one of my parents for partner/friend gold since they are going to be travelling a bit next year (I have no significant other...). They'll then be able to access some of the OW international lounges (so long as they are flying a OW airline of course) and have a bit more luggage weight to play with. Worthwhile cause right? ;)

Any cheapish options people can think of? Based in SYD. I was thinking doing a JASA in business for 3 segments (to net 3 x 40SCs) and another cheap red-e-deal to complete the task. Say a weekend trip to BNE (have a workshop I could do late Nov that would at least add a bit more meaning to this) or somewhere similar.

TIA

Well if the person you give it too will do enough travel to justify the cost then do it I say.

Probably do a search JASA on here to find some good earning options. There is one good suggestion starting in Canberra.

Just think of the extra points your parents might earn from being a Gold. It’s a noble cause and doesn’t take much to get it for them for a year, I’d say do it, but I guess it comes down to whether or not you can find a good deal or not ;)

I would just try the CBR-SYD-HBA JASA for 16000 pts + $65, that will get you 100 SCs, the other 20 will come from positioning flights.

Need 125 SCs but that does seem the best option value wise. :)
Could reposition into CBR on red-e-deal for 10 SCs and return from HBA-SYD for 15 SCs to get the 125 but looks like requiring an o/night in Hobart...and I was there some 18mths ago so no real need to visit again. ;)

Other option I'm considering is CBR-SYD-BNE-SYD for 32k pts + ~$200 :!:. Plus the repositioning flight SYD-CBR to get over the line ( 3 x 40 SCs + 10 SC = 130). Reason being I can tee up a work related workshop over one of the weekends and expense some of the costs. ;) And if I can work a Thurs flight SYD-BNE I can visit the F lounge as a bonus.

Hmmm...

Incidently what seat inventory do these ASA come from (X and U?). And as WP are we able to request additional availabilities?

Ah...forgot the transit in MEL option. Thanks! :p

Incidentally the CBR-SYD-BNE option with F lounge visit was a tight 1:15 to get from dom to intl so not much time in the lounge actually!

Note that until 1 May 2011 Partner Gold is just that - partner. Therefore, no parents. That said, there are ways around it, according to other posts on AFF.
