Premium Economy seats on Economy booking???

We are travelling Syd - SFO on Dec 31 on an economy booking (S fare). I've gone into our booking to select seats and have been given the option of selecting 39A,B,J - which looks like Premium Economy to me. Would this be correct? Hubby is Gold FF, myself and son barely Bronze!! What are the chances of us keeping those seat allocations or is it probable that we'll be snapped back to reality and economy!

We are planning to use points to upgrade at least one of the sections - I guess we wouldn't bother with this part if we were pretty confident we'd be sitting in PE for the journey - save the points?

Any advice or previous experience is welcome. Also, anyone who has been in those seats - are they ok?

Grab the Premium Seats.

You'll be fine and be able to keep them.

I know of people who travel on this route in Premium and grab business class seating!

I have most recently been in 39J (SFO-SYD) and had previously been in 39B (EZE-SYD). Both were fine PE seats. I like row 39 as they're the last row of PE seats. I think that you should save the points and just grab those 3 seats before they're taken. My partner was a Bronze and he was pre-allocated 39K (SFO-SYD).

There seemed to be a few vacant PE seats (rows 36-39) on my SFO-SYD flight last week and the CSM moved 3 pax from the whY section up. They were very very happy (for a more restful night).

This will still be economy - just in a PE seat. The risk you run is that there might be an aircraft substitution and you could be sent back to the standard Y seats. This happened to me in May on the SFO-SYD route. Thankfully QF gave us the first row of Y with a spare seat next to us. If it were me, I'd be requesting a points upgrade to PE. Much better service and the chance of getting a business class skybed for half the normal points you'd need to get to J. Of course if the points upgrade comes through and there is an aircraft substitution, be prepared for a standard PE seat!

As people have said, you just need to look at your priorities and go with that. The important thing is that you are probably safe with your PE seats BUT if you have any inclination toward wanting a business seat then you should apply for a point upgrade.

• First class seats rows 1 to 4 sold as Business Class,
• Skybeds in rows 29 & 30 sold as Premium Economy
• Premium Economy seats in rows 36 to 39 sold as Economy.
• All other seating as normal.

Thanks Serfty - I wasn't very clear in my original post. With some skybeds being used in PE, this is what I meant when I suggested a points upgrade request to PE -though securing the limited skybeds at T-24 might be a stretch!

Would you say the same thing applies? Trying to decide if it's worth a points upgrade to J - probably not if we're going to get J seating anyway.

Looked at the seat map for the flight using expert flyer and compared the configuration with the Qantas seat map for the aircraft.
