Flying SYD to HNL and return in August, want to try an avoid the QF 767 Y product (and don’t think it’s worth the money or upgrade points for 767 J)

I have never flown FJ or International JQ, so what do you think is better:

SYD-NAN Y (747-400) then NAN-HNL J (737-800) on FJ
Or
SYD-HNL *Class (A330) on JQ

I realise that using FJ is longer route and there is a stop over in both directions, but how do the products/service compare?

Not surprising is that both options are exactly the same price.

Why not do SYD-NAN in J for the extra $200-300? Given the well known issues with the J* service and cancellations ex HNL I would go FJ myself, but it is a close call.

The SYD-HNL seating is just like QF Domestic Business class

I would take that to avoid the stopover . The FJ business seats will have a better pitch than JQ ( 57 vs 40 iirc ) but not worth the extra travel time imo, plus you will spend 3hrs45 in economy anyway as well as 3.5 hours sat at NAN.

9hrs 45 in Starclass vs 3:45 in economy plus 6.5 in business would be a def win for Starclass to me

If you decide to take the FJ 747 in J-class, it is miles better than JQ's StarClass. Row 1 in the 747 is especially roomy but any other row in J is much more spacious than JQ's SC. The seat is far more comfortable too. Also the food and drinks presentation on FJ is much better than JQ (which is very plasticy). Only draw back on FJ is the IFE - a small screen on loop play.

A good point though, in the case of the OPs question that might not be a drawback given the alternative in Starclass.

OK, thanks for advise so far leaning to J all the way with FJ (have iPad for any IFE wows)

another 2 questions:

1) What would be the pros and cons with booking via QF or FJ websites, all flights have QF codeshare available for a slightly higher price? is it better to stay with FJ or pay a little extra too get QF flight numbers? Any Benefit?

Deleted question about overnight stay (due to no flights out)

markis10,

Assuming you do this how do you then go from NAN to HNL :?: The only options I see are quite expensive.

Yeah there was some BIZ Saver fares (Around 571) but they have gone, 2K to NAN not worth it, for 3.5 hours IMO

QF is 1200 return in J, with the rest of the trip to HNL booked with FK for $1700 return in J
